I just wanted to comment on these great defense shells. I have a Winchester 1300 Defender with an ATI Full Stock and pistol grip combo. I have to say I was a bit skeptical at 1st after ordering the Aguila Mini-Shells but was curious to try since they dont work in to many other 12 gauges. I was able to load a wopping 12+1 whic was a great 1st impression. The second was how smooth they functioned at the range. No jams or misfeeds, a perfect 13 shots every load. I was seriously impressed with not only the functionality, but also the low recoil and controlability. I have to say Aguila MiniShells are the perfect shell for any Winchester 1300 defender owner looking for a home defense shell. Anyone else had good/bad experiences with Aguila Minishells? I am interesting in reading about it.

I have only had good experiences with them. I love how they increase mag capacity. People say they have cycling problems, but I have never had any of those problems.

They won't cycle right in my 870 nor in a friend's, either.
I would also be very skeptical about using them for a home defense shell, since they contain, well...a few BB's, and likely aren't even as effective as a birdshot shell.
Giving an armed intruder a shallow flesh wound isn't going to stop them. If someone's in your house, I think it's better to take them down with one or two 4 buck to 00 buck shells, not hope that they'll stop after half a dozen mini shells.
By that time, they might have returned fire and gotten you or a family member, or just tackled you. I'd rather increase capacity with a good mag extension tube, and keep it filled with Hornady TAP 00 Buck shells.

I used a few on the trap range a year or so ago. They don't cycle in my 870 either, which isn't a problem since I used them on the singles. I did manage to hit a couple clays with them, and while the clays did break, the just barely did so. I wouldn't use them for anything but "fun" shooting or to train kids.

Home defense is about the exact opposite: you are dealing with a short-range, immediate threat. One round of standard 00 buck at the bad guy is what you want. The shells in the magazine are for backup. 4+1 is plenty, 7+1 or a buttstock cuff with a few more shells, if that makes you more comfortable.
If you fire 13 shots in your home, chances are you'll hurt someone you don't want to hurt. Best to have fewer, but better, rounds in the mag, IMHO.

Ain't that the truth. Then you have the folks that get nervous when they don't have a big stack of 30rnd mags for their "home defense" AR. I don't want to live anywhere near the joker who thinks he needs 100+ rifle rounds to repel a burgler.

Folks I trust report that patterning these is a reality check. Scant, patchy patterns with lots of flyers.
Me, I'll stick with standard 00, thank you very much.
If I go through the 5 rounds in my HD 870 in a crisis, and the 5 in the S/S, I need backup more than a few more beans in the wheel.

The place where these are worthwile is in the slugs. A lot fo people are going to slugs only for shotguns, and you don't lose much by going from a 1 ounce to a 7/8, especially when you can nearly double capacity.
Also, for a pistol gripped shotguns these are just the trick. Keeps recoil down to fun levels.

You are absolutely correct. Unless you feel that it's likely that you will be attacked in squad strength, and need to keep their heads down with grazing fire, then four + one is all you need.
I think movies and TV may be responsible for this attitude. Many people don't realize that in the real world a load of 00 in the chest, pretty much ends a fight.

I had good luck with my 1300 also - just have to be snappy with the action (like we should be).
I later sold my winny, but kept the Aguila's for my coach gun. I can get 10 Aguila's in a 5-place sleeve, so I've got lots of backup rounds.

they only run about ~75% in my 500A. The recoil is light with both the buck and slugs, but the pattern is not very good, and the slugs dont group that well either. Bad Patterns+inaccuracy far outweighs a little more recoil.
I'll be the first to admit that its fun having 13+1 to blast, but that whole 75% thing puts a stop to that fun
