I heard about AIM surplus from a friend of mine, but can't get the web site to work.

www.aimsurplus.com

Does it work for everyone else?

Why won't it work for me.

I'm looking into getting a M91 (or two) and some sort of AK. Still doing research and heard this was a good site to check out, but I can't get there.

Also, any other recommendations, along the line of AK's for dummies, would be nice. I really want a FAL but think I can probably only afford an AK :D

EDIT: Changed title (added website). Don't want to imply customer service issues, just technical ones :)

Howdy, Nightfall! I can tell you that their site is up, and that the link in your post works just fine. They list Century R1A1 FALs at $529.

I wish I could help you with the rest, but I'm no expert on any of the rifles you've mentioned. Someone who knows will probably be along shortly. Good luck, and have fun.

Thanks for the site, I'll check it out. Obviously, I would prefer to buy locally (see the transfer thread above...I don't need to post in it to understand what a pain it would be :D )

Here's what my desktop looks like:

Now why I get this when everyone else gets the real thing is baffling.

Can someone tell me what IP they get when they ping www.aimsurplus.com? I get 66.223.51.212.

Thanks!

FWIW, I get the same IP and web page.

You could always call or email:

That one works just fine.

Thanks!!!

Something is screwed up in their, or someone else's DNS.

Not screwed up, just still propagating a change. Depending on how DNS servers are set up, it can take up to 24 hours to push a DNS change out to everyone.

Ugly
That one doesn't work either. takes you to an AIM page but I can't go any where from there.

I heard that they were updating their servers today/tomorrow & that all should be good in a day or so.

(also that they were going to have some sort of "special" to reward us for putting up with outages  :D )

Man, I need a C&R license. I want an M38 an M91....drool. Why not a 44 while I'm at it. Oh, and a....

just so everyone knows, all you have to do to get to ANY page is replace www.aimsurplus.com with the IP address. it's kind of a pain to get around, but it does work.

great folks at AIMsurplus i suggest them highly. luckily i live 10 minutes from there so i don't have to pay shipping. good folks great prices. what else could you ask for!!!

jw,

Once the desired page (any website) is displayed, how can the IP address be found/displayed? I used to know what to click or where to look, but can't remember anymore, and I imagine it can still be done?

Thanks

Alex

I don't actually use the browser to find the IP. The quickest way is to open a DOS prompt, by typing 'command' or 'cmd' in the run menu.

At the DOS prompt, type 'nslookup aimsurplus.com' which will return something like:
Server: your-dns-server.com
Address: 172.xxx.xxx.xxx

Name: aimsurplus.com
Address: 66.223.51.212

The top IP address is the server you requested the IP information from, the bottom address is the information you requested. (Note my work server returns the invalid address this morning.)

HTH,
~Wesley

That was it!
I still use DOS commands almost daily, but just couldn't remember - I guess it's about time I start jotting these things down....

Thanks -

Alex

HIDE YOUR WALLETS!

The new site is active. Haven't seen those "crazy deals" that were mentioned yet.

Still got a few kinks, too...I try to subscribe to their emailing list and get the 404.

The new site, the one I've seen over the last two or three days, is really a big step backward. It doesn't fit on my screen, and when I click on "ammunition" or "firearms" all I get is their "purchase requirements." This can be cured by clicking on the "site map," but unless my experience is unique, some web developer sold AIM a serious piece of crap.
