A man suspected of robbing a liquor store in Hugo, Oklahoma was shot twice by the clerk of that store on Thursday night. The masked man held up West Main Liquor, but didn't expect the clerk to fight back.

The following is a news release of the event from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation:

At approximately 6:30 Thursday evening, a man wearing a ski mask and brandishing what appeared to be a .45 semi-automatic handgun attempted to rob the West Main Liquor store in Hugo. The clerk opened the register and the suspect began grabbing cash from the drawer.

The clerk pulled out a .38 revolver and shot the suspect one time in the upper torso. When that did not encourage the suspect to put down his gun, the clerk grabbed a shotgun and shot the suspect one time. The man, identified as 50-year-old Guy Wade Buck, walked outside the store where two Hugo police officers were standing.

Another person inside the store called 9-1-1 during the robbery and alerted police. The officers had just arrived when they hear the shotgun blast. The officers quickly apprehended the suspect who was flown to Wadley Hospital in Texarkana where he remains in critical condition. The gun was discovered to be a plastic air gun.

Buck is from the rural Choctaw County area.

Hugo Police called in OSBI to assist in the investigation.

Now granted, we cant tell shot placment from this article, but between a .38 and presumably a 12ga, any load, maybe even cheap birdshot, probably at near contact range, the perp still managed to walk out under his own power.

There's no doubt that certain calibers and loads statisticaly work better than others, but this proves that there is no such thing as one-shot-stop calibers, there are only one-shot-stop hits.

I do not understand why he only fired one shot from his .38 then took the time to switch to another weapon? I think I would have unloaded the .38 before making myself vulnerable buy going for the shotgun.

I would like to see a follow up on this one. I wonder if the clerk will be charged.

That could explain why it did not stop the guy too. The hit to the "upper torso" could be a grazing shoulder shot for all we know. The man may have been a horrible shot.

It is hard to believe that Buck, from a rural area, did not drop everything he had when the .38 went off at spittin distance. My guess is he was using all his muscle control in another area of his body. So it was right to go for the 12 gauge. Buck, from a rural area, didn’t go down after the shotgun blast but he began to use what little brain power he could muster, he’s from a rural area you know, to get out. Good move Buck, from a rural area, maybe he was trying to return to the rural area, you think.
Buck, who is from a rural area, is lucky the police were there to get him to the city hospital. So, they rushed Buck, who is from a rural area, to the city hospital. I wonder in the city hospital do they speak his language, he’s rural you know.
I am just making fun of the reporter. What could be pertinent about being from a rural area. I grew up near Hugo and now live in a big city. Apparently the reporter doesn’t get out much. I am glad the clerk is ok and that Buck, who is rural, is going to make it to go back to his rural roots. And mend his rural ways I hope. Sorry

No question about that! I remember a few years back a brown bear charged some fishermen. The fellow with the shotgun THREW IT at the bear even before shooting it! It turned out the guy with a little 9mm sidearm actually ended up stopping the charge.
