It seems that a few years ago someone came up with sort of shotguns using Air to propel the shot using either wads or sabots... Anyone know more about this?

Not that I am thinking about getting one these, but just wanted to know more about them.

If my failing memory is even close Crossman made a CO2 shotgun maybe it was the early 80’s even late 70’s don’t think it performed well enough to take hold.

Trapmaster CO2 shotgun model 1100

.380 "gauge" (actually caliber)

55 #8 shot 14 inch pattern at 40 feet.

Good luck finding one that works and "shells" (reloadable) for it

The infamous Rev Sun Yung Moon got his start with an air powered shotgun in Korea, named the Yewha, a take off on Yaweh. Good story available on one of the big name websites, I just can't place it. Maybe written by Galan.
Had an air reservoir under the barrel, ala crossman, etc all, with a projection to hold down with your foot while pumping the whole gun up and down. About 30 cal. I've seen only one and wish I'd bought it but back then you just didn't buy anything from that part of the world.

I found two sites mentioning the Yewha Air Shotgun:
