Drudge report last month said TSA had fired numerous TSA airport employees at Newark and other airports for taking things from the traveling public's luggage. I do not remember the exact number but it was a chunk and even made national news where one of the guys caught said it was quite normal where he worked.
Thieves at the agency to include drug running at one point in Calif. has been documented. They are surely increasing the oversight with 'who watches the watchers' due to some of the reported abuses.
I travel overseas all the time and in my experience we have not had anything missing or taken.
