I need some help on choosing an Ak 47.I have been seriously looking at the vulcan arms v47$550.00 and the Romanian wasr-10 $350.00+.Has anyone on here have experince with the Vulcan arms AK?Any suggestions would help.

Vulcan arms = CRUD

No way, they are "The Machineguns of the Special Forces", their website says so :p

I've been happy with my Vector AK and it's hard to go wrong with Arsenal if you can find one and have the dough.

I had an SSR-85C2 from Armory USA (Global Trades) in Houston. Was an awesome gun built on the thicker 1.6mm Bulgarian receiver. Parkerized finish, extremely accurate, super reliable. Only time I ever had problems with it was when I had a bolt buffer in it, removed the buffer and back to 100% reliability.
Only improvements I ever made were ergo pistol grip, orange front sight from Tapco and rear peep sight from Krebs Custom (all contributing to the guns excellent accuracy). Basically made it easier for me to shoot accurately.
Grab one if you can find one, mine was around $550 out the door.

i just got an ak75 from classic arms inc, advertised a centry build, for 350...this is my first one, but i am impressed with fit of the trunnions, etc....gpr

I've been looking at the AK 103 at Atlantic Firearms. But for $775.00 is it worth paying that kind of cash for an AK?It will be my truck and extra deer driving rifle. My current truck gun is a Yugo sks,I'm looking to upgrade.

You really do need to do some research on all the variants out there. I would definitly stay away from any of the romanians, but then again if you just want something to go plinking with romanians are cheap and not too hard to find. Usually every gun show has acouple that they can't get rid of.

Another common variant is the Norinco model MAK90. I remember a few years back everyone wanted one, now they can't get rid of them. The next up would be Armory USA(global trades) which puts together some pretty good rifles. But if you are serious and willing to spend the money, go for an Arsenal variant. I've spent the last four months looking for an arsenal and got lucky at a gunshow and picked up a SAM7R for under a grand.

Basically do your homework and do it before they are no longer available. Good luck.

Archibald, "Any of the romanians" is really not accurate at all, actually what ya are reffering to is the romanian WASR commercial only rifle built from reject non-milspec parts BUT there are other "Romanians" which are actually extremely nice they are built from the actual military issued AKs which are used all over the world, one sold here would be assembled on an American reciever versus the junk reciever used for the WASR rifles etc...

If ya actually want to get the REAL info on AK based weapons your better to actually study up on a site dedicated to nothing but the AK series rifles. Thehighroad is a great site however its not dedicated and therefore ya will tend to have gaps in the information versus a site populated by nothing but AK fanatics, builders etc...

Vulcan is the most advanced firearms company out there. They can do things with glue that other companies must use rivets or bolts for.

:D

Lancaster makes a fine gun for the money.

In the local "trading journal"/free classifieds: folding stock AK-47 by MADDI, made in Egypt, 7.62x39mm cal with 3 30rd, 3 20 rd mags, sling and case, $425
Don't know anything about MADDI, or AK's in general for that matter.

ALso PolyTech AK-47 7.62x39 underfolder, new in original box, rare collector's piece, mint condition, accessories included $1950.

Can't afford either right now. PM for phone #'s in anybody's interested. I'm just curious, $425 for a decent AK seems ok price in the area.

FWIW I love my WASR 10. I just wanted the cheapest AK I could get so I got a WASR. When I got it home I was amazed at how bad it looked, the crappy wood, metal welded into the mag well so the mags wouldn't shake, the little dings all over the receiver, I had doubts it would work. I cleaned it up good and took it to the range, it is true that any AK will work reliably and I actually find it quite charming. I will say I am looking for an AK with 'dimples' so either it didn't satisfy or they are just addictive.

I dont know what people have against WASRs. I have a WASR-10 and couldnt be happier. I replaced the trigger with a Tapco G2 (with some THR member assistance) and it made it even better. It is by no means the most accurate rifle, but the trigger pull sure makes a difference.

I have never had a round misfire or fail to cycle. Mine has the cheesy looking side folding stock on it, but since it doesnt affect the firing of the gun I havent bothered to change it.

I will admit I have not tried any other AK varients, but why spend more if something that costs less will meet your needs?

I am happy with my WASR as well. After I stripped, sanded and re-oiled the furniture I was happier still. It made a real difference in the appearance. I also polished up the trigger group and did the trigger slap fix to it. Now it is MY gun and I couldn't be happier. For the money I saved on a WASR instead of some of the fancier ones, I can buy a whole lot of plinkin ammo for it.

Another note on my WASR, it has no trigger slap and a little Tru-Oil Gun Stock Finish fixed up the stock very nice!

Dunno about the Vulcan, but

the Romanian wasr-10 $350.00+

Just picked up a Century WASR-10, not too long ago. Abundant information is available, just a Google search away.

Mine is ugly, but everything is straight, and so far it works just fine. Mine came w/ Tapco furniture and trigger, that bumped the price a bit (but the stock is long enough to fit right).

This is my first AK, but may not be my last.

I have a WASR-2 (5.45 x 39) and a Maadi. If you can get the used maadi, get it. Maadis are really nice rifles. As for the WASR... form what I have seen, it looks like the first batch of WASRs were real crap: loose magwells and it looked like the rifles were shelacked in horse poo. Newer ones seem to have better fit and finish (or just lack of wood finish to be exact). If we were Pakistanis and our rifles were an sold in arms bazzars, the WASR would be the one hand-made by a poor family in the back of their home and sold to augment their shepherding income. It'd function just like the other AKs, but it would just be rougher. For about $50 more though, you could probably get one of those Lancaster Consulting rifles, which have the dimples above the magwell. I've heard good things about them.

I've had a WASR-10 for coming up on 4 years now. Never a malfunction and the only maintenance is a squirt of WD-40 every now and again. The furniture was butt ugly blond wood but takes a stain very well and looks 200% better with a tung oil finish. It's pretty enough now that even Jane Fonda would be proud to use it in the Dance of the Kalashnikov's USO Reunion Tour.

I'm going to have to go on record here and say the WASR-10 is a great gun. It is cheaper then any other variant ( around $349 is what I payed for it). I cleaned it our real good, stained the stock for better color. I also hear a lot of people say how inaccurate it is. I don't know about anyone elses but mine is pretty accurate. I'm hittin bullseyes from over 100 yards with the original iron sites. Plus with over 800 rnds through it already I have had no failures or anything. In my opinion it is the best choice, low price good reliability, and with the money you save you can buy more ammo to plink and practice with. Just my 2 cents.

Here is one on my wishlist:

My WASR-3 is good.. it was problem ridden by Century and now its all good.
The Romanians DO have some excellent spawns, and they all can be modified/repaired to your preference.

I scoped my .223 AK and it works very well like that.

I didnt do my homework on AK's when I paid $450 for my WASR, but as it is I'm not gonna give up a sturdy, reliable, and effective AK for really any reason.

NOBODY has mentioned another "AK" following the RPK design...

I looked at a Romanian AES-10 on sunday and I'm almost in love... they look so freakin nice with raw wood and factory finish. It's worth lookin into...

I love my AK-47 so much that I bought two of them. The only problem that really irritates me is that the buttstock is often too short for my physique, in which case I have to find aftermarket buttstocks to replace the originals and I like red dot scopes to top them off. So, I have bought covers with an integral scope mount on top not any of those side rail mounts that are so common with Russian weapons.

I hunt deer and wild hogs with my AKs, so they are practical and utilitarian in every respect. I paid $350 for my first AK-47 in the summer of 1988, which was and still is the standard price. I also have an AR-10 that I paid about $1250.00 dollars for and I've only shot the thing one time but I always come back to the basic bread and butter AK-47 that I'm most comfortable with.

Yugoslavian M70AB1 full stock, or Yugoslavian M70AB2 folding stock are very nice. I have an AK built on a Romanian SAR1 parts kit which is also very nice. I just bought an AMD 65. You should be able to find Polish AK47's in the same price range. All the guns I mentioned are under $500 and are pretty darn nice as far as AK's are concerned. Another option would be to find a Saiga and do the AK47 conversion on them, or find one already converted.
