I just bought an AK74, and it came with 4 30rd magazines. I need to get some with less than 30rd capacity, but can't seem to find any. Any suggestions? - Thanks!

What's your purpose for lesser capacity? Hunting, use in a state with a "hi-cap" ban, or just want a shorter mag?

Anyway, I don't know of many options. Promag might offer something, not high quality. TAPCO might have an option that would be a little better. All the genuine comblock mags I've heard of are 30rds or more.

Thanks Z. My state does not allow 30rd mag, so I'm looking for one that is legal. I was hoping to get a 20rd, but don't know if they make one. I saw a posting that said to beware some 10rd mags may not fit my rifle....? I just looked in Tapco, & they did not have any.

I'm moving this to the Rifles forum to see if it gets better exposure there.

I think KVar carries some lower capacity 74 mags as well.

I went through this a while back, nobody and I mean nobody had these in stock except for Century Arms who wanted some ridiculous small order fee. I ultimately found a 10rd one on gunbroker.

The reason I wanted it was so I could use my bench rest to zero the scope on it without single loading.

Yeah, KVAR is a good idea. If they have anything it should be decent quality. Promag AK mags tend to fit poorly and break early.

Not to be a downer but the AK-47 and the AR have many times more choices for 10 and 20 round mags than the AK-74.

That's a single-stack WASR mag and I don't think it will work in an AK74 clone set up for standard double-stack mags.

Will a 7.62x39 magazine work? I know the case is tapered differently (hence the different curve to the mags), but perhaps it would work if not loaded to full capacity.

No. The mag well is narrower on a 74.

And longer. They deliberately built the 74 mag/mag well so no body in a dumb moment could try using mags from one weapon in the other. (Unlike the Galil, whose magazines will fit into a AKM mag well, as one of my Joes found out once while, thankfully, using blanks.)

the old cur2 romanian rifles used to ship with a 5 rounder. They were typical steel pattern. (or was it ten, I thought five)

You can shorten a steel mag yourself. Do a search on the net. I also heard it could be done with a polymer mag.

I'll sell you one for $20 shipped or 2 for $35 shipped.
