AK74 Trench Art Mag with a story.....kind of....

....this is for those interested in this kind of thing. i just love this kind of history that allows just enough information to make for a great story curled up in a mystery that allows for your own illustration.

LEFT side:

"Огън, служба не остана!" It comes from a Bulgarian song called "Dismissal" where part of the lyrics are "Огън в служба не остана, срещата ще е в бара." The line on the mag translates as "Ogn in the service not staying, the meeting will be in the bar." I think it is basically saying, "Ogn is not staying in the service, he'll be at the bar." Looks like Ogn is the guys name in the song.

RIGHT side:

Кети + шико Looks like the owner of the mag may have been making reference to his girl + him.

Bulgarian: Kathy + Shiko
Russian: Katie + Chico

уво 97. уво are the 1st 3 letters in both the Bulgarian and Russian words for dismissal so it probably means the guy was discharged in 1997.

thanks. i got the tourniquet from a forum member on the akfiles site.
 
Ogn (ogun, огън) means "fire" in Bulgarian. BTW, for that kind of "trench art" one would easily face at least 10 days in the black hole.

what do you mean by this? because of what it says? or because of how it's written?
 
It translates into something like this - "Fire, there's no service left!" With "fire" having a broader meaning than just fire...;)

About the "black hole" - you are not supposed to destroy or damage Army property or disrespect it. And this is just that - disrespect, mockery with Army property and with the Army itself.

In reality it depended on the unit you are stationed, but in my unit (Infantry, ROTC) one would definitely be in big trouble if seen with that magazine.

thanks for the input Mizar and for helping with translating the writing. i see trench art mags like this all the time though. maybe this is something that is done, nearing one's discharge?

In general, yes - when one becomes an "old dog" rules can be bent a little bit.

First pic: "Тук има 30 човешки живота" - "Here we have 30 human lives". Obviously a poet...:rolleyes:
Second pic, below the obvious UVO: "Winery ... something" - second word doesn't make sense for me.

P.S. I must say that I'm not really found on those "trench art" items - most of the guys that did it were just bored and without too much brain baggage. Myself and my guys - we just made sure that our AK's are clean, lubricated and working... Serial number was personal enough for us.

Very interesting stuff. It was neat to see the second mag as well. Where do you find those skipbo? Do you ask a seller if they have any that are carved up and get a discount or something?
