AK74 uppers

I put together a Polish Tantal kit with that ugly medium brown upper that looks like it is solid paint and doesn't come close to matching the lower or grip. I want to replace it with one that matches. Does anyone know who is selling ak 74 uppers?

Yes, that is how they were issued.

The military isn't a fashion show (unlike what some would have you believe).

I believe you may be looking for some furniture. Go to Ironwood designs. They will have nice matching wood furniture. Go to akfiles.com and find more vendors of fine wood furniture as well.

I don't know firsthand, but the ATI forend seems like it would fit, since the upper half only engages on the front rim-thing. I've handled an AK with one of these, and i don't wholeheartedly recommend it; it didn't have an opening for a cleaning rod, and it was in the way of the sights just a little. But it looked good and felt good.

ETA: nevermind, you were talking about replacing the upper handguard, not the whole thing.

+1 on that being how they were made and issued. I'd think the wooden replacement hand guards would be your only option on getting them matching.

I see KVAR has some wood ones, yes, the photo of the tantal and the upper vs lower handguard color is what I am talking about. I understand that is how they were issued, still ugly...

Nobody's ever really accused the AK of being pretty in the first place.

The upper handgaurd on the Tantals is not the same as any other Kalashnikov.

You'll have to

A) get a custom made one

B) paint the one you've got
