Anyone here in the Akron, OH area? I'm relocating there for work. Doing a little advance recon on the 'net isn't getting me very far. Lots of places that seem to be "trap" clubs, but I'm looking for places to shoot pistol, rifle, and maybe skeet. Mostly interested in a club-style organization but commercial ranges would be interesting too. Probably will end up on the west or southwest side of Akron but easy access to a club might change that. ;)

There are two indoor pistol ranges on the outskirts of west Akron that I'm familiar with - The Marksman, and Midwest gun Club. Outdoor rifle and skeet ranges are little thinner and require a little more diving, but there are several sportmans clubs in surrounding rural areas. Once you get into rural areas, outdoor ranges find themselves competing with so many backyard home ranges. What part of Akron will you be working in? You obviously want to live where you can easily get to work.

We're looking on the west side of Akron, most of the stuff we are liking is actually in eastern Medina Co. So driving a bit south or west for a good club is fine by me.

Unfortunately enough land to have my own range isn't likely in the cards at the moment.

Even if you dont have your own home-range, you will very quickly become friends with many who do.

A lot depends on what part of Akron you work in, and what hours. The traffic patterns can be horrible or mild, depending on what direction you are going at what time.

I live west of Akron, and both the indoor pistol ranges I mentioned are on my way home from work, depending on which way I take. I work near the Akron-Canton Airport. If you are traveling from Medina to west Akron on I-76, you would go right past the Marksman. http://www.themarksmanrange.com .

There are hunt clubs and sportsmans clubs, of which I think there are at least two in Medina County, and several in Wayne Co. just south of Medina Co..

A good place for that info is here: http://www.ohiosportsman.com/

I used to shoot at a private outdoor range called Kelby's, which is west of Akron somewhat, but close. Haven't been there in years, but it was a good place to shoot handguns and rifles.
I stopped going there when I joined West Branch Rifle and Pistol Club.

Tusco range is about an hour from Akron and is one of the best ranges in the state.

Marksman looks nice for me, but the rule about no one under 16 seems odd and wouldn't allow me to shoot with my daughter. That's unfortunate. I'll have to look at some of these links. House hunting hasn't gone as well as I'd hoped and I'm starting to get frustrated.

Canton Mckinley is pretty formal target shooting... VERY limited close range pistol if any. Geared heavily /biased to bullseye. There are several other clubs around canton- louisville sportsman club- mapleton gun club etc

I know a really good realtor in the area- give Amy Wengerd Realty group a call...

I belong to canton McKinley, I don't shoot many comps...they have 100/200 yd rifle range, 25/50 yd pistol, and a utility range where you can shoot from point blank out to 75 yd. Indoor range is 50 ft I think...Matches take priority above anybody...but guys are good about letting you shoot the matches even if you don't have a clue. Cost is about $125/year. Need two references from current members, and have to complete safety course to join.

Also look into the ranges run by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Costs 24 bucks the the year, making it worth the drive just to save range fees.

I belong to the Lake County Rod & Gun Club, Madison, Ohio. Exit 528 odd 90. Be glad to take you shooting there as a guest. Kind of far to drive but has all you are looking for.

There is a nice little public range for pistol, rifle and shotgun (no skeet or trap though) that I frequent called KCs Rifle & Pistol Club down near North Lawrence. http://www.ccwfiringrange.com/kcmain.htm

For an actual private club, the North Lawrence Fish and Game Club has rifle, pistol and trap/skeet as well as a nice lake. http://nlfg.org/

As far as indoor ranges, I like Midwest in Canal Fulton much better than the Marksman in Barberton.
