Good day all.

Im starting to reload for a .243 win with a 1:10 twist 24" barrel, using 95gr SST. Hornady brass with CCI200 primers.

The problem is that I can not get hold of any powder that is known to work in the cartridge. In an ideal world I would use IMR or H4350 but currently the only powders in stock is IMR 7828ssc, H1000 and Varget. Not one of these powders really suite the burn rate that the .243 win likes. The only one of those three powders that seems like it might work is 7828ssc.

Anybody out there that is using 7828ssc in the 243win with a similar bullet weight ? What is the accuracy like?

Well according to most people Varget is burning to fast for the 95-100 and pressure signs starts early. H1000 is to slow and doesnt get up to pressure before there is no more space left for powder in the case.

H4831SC does well for 90-100gr bullets in my .243. Never tried 7828 in it, but it'd be the one I'd try first out of what you have listed, then H1000 would be next.

Another H4831SC fan.

Worked well in my 26" barreled .243, and still worked when I screwed on a Bartlein 26" in 6mm SLR with 100s, 105s, and 115s. The 6mm SLR has slightly less capacity than the .243W. Velocity with both was just shy of 3200 with the 105s.

Am also loading for 243 win......and have found load data all over the place for it. A rifle caliber with split personality as to preferences for powder.

As for Varget.........the Hornady reloading manual names N140 and IMR4064 as most accurate powders for the 243 Win.......and Sierra also named IMR4064 as most accurate powder for an 85 gr sierra game king. Those are in same burn range as Varget. Lee has load data for all the powders you mentioned. So may depend on if you are looking for ideal.....whatever that is......or something to go bang.

Another avenue you can approach is to buy a pound of the available powder that is most popular and offer it up on a local forum for trade. I have done that a few times successfully. I believe Varget will be your most popular powder followed by H-1000. It might be worth a try.

H1000 will work just fine with a 95, I run a max load.

With 95 gr bullets, both H-1000 and IMR-7828 should work, although I haven’t tried either. My personal current favorite with 90 gr bullets is Reloder 17, although it is currently tough to find. Others I have used over the years with reasonable success in similar burn rate would include IMR-4831, H-4831, Ramshot Hunter, and Alliant Power Pro 4000-MR. These powders do show up occasionally online and locally more often than IMR or H-4350, H-1000 or Varget.

I've used several powders in 243 win, win 760 with nag primers, ramshot hunter, imr and h 4350. Imr and h 4895, even superformance with 100 gr hornandy hpbt interlocks. All have produced satisfactory groups, some haven't given the highest velocities imr and h4895 were lowest but did shoot into very small groups. I'd also look into accurate powders 2230, 2460, 4064, 4350 there are others that work as well but these are ud if ally less expensive.

You do you, boo. Neither of those “problems” have been a problem for my rifles with Varget or H1000, so I guess I’m lucky my rifles belong to me instead of “most people.”

Varget in stock!? Thats been a long time coming.

I run IMR4831 in my 243 behind a 75gr bullet. About a 3400 fps load. Its my deer load.

Ive heard good things about the 7828SSC but never tried any.
