Real quick, I'm new to this forum, sort of. My fiance is a long time member here, goes by n003k, and he talks about some discussions on here. I am a former gun "hater" who is now, obviously, not. I "hated" them because I was uneducated and now that I know how they work and have experience with some, I am much more comfortable with guns in general and am starting to get very interested.

Anyway, as for the topic, n003k recently bought a revolver for me to use at the range, just a little thing, a .22, the only markings on it being Germany and .22LR. I did a search hoping to find the make and model and it lead me to here where someone had what sounded like the same revolver and couldn't figure out what it was. Anyway, the thing was COVERED in cosmoline, so I was obviously going to clean it. After removing the grips to clean under those as well, I saw "Herbert Schmidt" written on it. Still not too sure of the model, but it definitely cleared some of my curiosity! Moral of the story: if you're not sure, check under the grips!

That is a nice discovery. Personally, I keep looking for one that says Wild Bill Hickock or Wyatt Earp under the grip. So far all I found is the name of a local ranch family scratched inside the grip of a Single Action Colt made in 1895.

Was this an inexpensive revolver? I keep thinking RG (Rohm). These are generally not considered to be good revolvers.

It was a hundred bucks, and it works. Haven't had the chance to fire it yet, so don't know how it handles, but I liked the little thing.

First welcome to the forum brittanyjean. From your decription I also think it may be an RG. They were made in Germany and sold through a distributor here in the U.S.. They sold for as little as $50 in the past and with inflation today $100 would be considered cheap. Don't worry I'm not critizing you or n003k. In fact my mother had an RG 10 that I inherited after both my parents passed away in 2002. It is not in great shape but it was hers and I plan to keep it for sentimental reasons. A 22 revolver is a good start. There are many levels of gun owners. Some just enjoy the one gun for target shooting. Some are avid collectors, hunters, and gunsmiths who can do almost anything with and to a gun. Most of us fall somewhere in between.

If you have any questions about any gun related subject just ask. Don't be afraid that it sounds stupid, silly or what ever. If you can think of the question someone else has as well. Believe it or not most of us have probably asked it ourselves. Thats how we learned. Lord knows I have asked many questions over the years and answered many as well. Most are here to learn from others and pass on what we have learned to others. Keep learning. Again welcome.

Thank you very much, Black Knight! Thank you forclarifying you were not criticizing, though that was not what I perceived it as. I also "have" a Ruger single six that I love, and I'm actually a pretty good shot. I'm thinking I may have n003k buy a target gun for my use at the range to get a little bit better. I go on another forum where you can't post anything without someone disagreeing or being rude, so it is very refreshing to find someone as friendly as you! Thanks again!

Seems to me that you are well on your way. Rugers are very good guns. They are about as high quality and reasonably priced as you can find. Good luck and stay safe.

Brittanyjean, welcome to the forum. I wasn't trying to hurt your feelings. IF it is an RG, I didn't want you to think it was some sort of great collectors item found in great shape and purchased.

Glad to hear that you enjoy shooting. More Ladies need to enjoy the sport. It is definitely a unisex sport. The Ruger Single Six is a very good revolver.

Welcome to the fold. Whether your gun was cheap or free it matters not as long as it and you are safe in it's operation and it works. Remember your eyes and ears while shooting and be safe. Again Welcome.

Yeah, I figured there probably weren't that many females here, oh well. I'll keep y'all in check! :p And I do intend to buy, buy, buy, haha

Hello brittanyjean and welcome to the forum.
I like your buy, buy, buy intention.

Not a wheel gun, but I recently took the grips off my Springer 1911 for the first time and was amazed at the collection of gunk under them. It looked like a mixture of the original packing grease and CLP.

Brittanyjean I am glad you have come around to being someone who appreciates the honor of owning a firearm. There are lots of folks around the world who cannot own a gun and others who like your former self do not like guns.

I am glad you are no longer a gun "Hater". My wife is a person who does not like guns (plus a lot of different foods) and might change her mind if she could be induced to just try shooting a little. I am glad you were open minded enough to try. The world would be a different place if folks would open their minds a little.

Now go find yourself a nice S&W model 15 38 special and enjoy one of the best guns in one of the best rounds. And welcome to the forum.
