Am I Asking Too Much - SA Customer Service

    I picked up a new Springfield 1911, Operator. It isn't a really big deal but I was surprised to find out after getting it home that it doesn't fit in the holster that it comes with. While I didn't plan to really use the holster for CC I thought it might be OK for at the range. So, I called Springfield CS. The response I got was that they don't make the holsters and while they can send me another one they can't really guarantee that it will work. They said most people don't use them or throw them away. I said I would pass on them sending me a new holster. While I appreciate the reps honesty I don't appreciate any company that will knowingly sell something that doesn't really work properly. This won't stop me from buying another Springfield 1911 BUT it does leave me disappointed.

    That's bizarre. Personally, I always thought the included holster looked rinky-dink and junky, but if you pay for it, you should be able to use the dang thing.

    I have a few Springfields, 1911s and XDs and the supplied holster always has fit. I would have them send you a new holster, it most likely was defective.

    Oh shucks!! Don't worry about the holster, just be glad if the gun works... :uhoh:

    You would think they would at least make it work. Even if most people throw them away or dont use them.

    The holster in mag holder in the SA guns is nothing but marketing fluff. They cost SA almost nothing and are there only to make you think you are getting something "extra" for your money. Nevertheless, if it came with the pistol you should at least be able to use it if you want to. I would make them send you a new one.

    I would guess as the Operator is a railed 1911 and most of the Springfield 1911s are not railed that the holster is not defective but just designed for a standard 1911. I would Springfield a pass on this one.

    Yep, it's the rail that hangs up. As far as giving them a pass, fine. Maybe they should include an extra mag or something for the trouble. Just sayin, I can't get away with that in my business.

    Have you adjusted the tension on the holster? If so...

    Get a heat gun that will do about 600 degrees. Wear leather gloves. Clear your pistol, check it twice!

    I recommend keeping some tension by tightening the tension screw somewhat. The gun should still go into the holster.

    Insert the pistol as far as it will go. Remove it. Look for kydex particles on the gun and scrapes on the inside of the holster. Once you have identified the drag points, apply heat in 1-2 second bursts to the area. Do quick bursts and keep the gun at least 1"-2" away to avoid burnishing. Heat, point away, heat, etc. The kydex will just barely start to get soft. Turn off the heatgun and insert the gun. You will see the kydex move. Wait approximately two minutes for the kydex to cool. Test the holster again. If there are more drag spots, heat and mold those. Once the gun moves freely into and out of the holster, adjust the tension to the correct setting.

    I'd give SA the benefit of the doubt. I have a number of SA firearms and have only once had to call them re: a broken hammer strut on a GI 1911. This when I wasn't even the original owner of the gun. They diagnosed the problem on the phone, told me it was under warranty, and they paid for shipping both ways, even emailing me the fed ex shipping labels to send it out to them. They also did a fluff 'n buff while it was there since I asked them to.

    Sorry the holster doesn't fit, but if you ever have any problem with the gun, they'll make it right with the absolute least bother to you.

    Funny if Kimber or Taurus did this we would be hearing all the horror stories, but from precious Springfield "let's just give them a pass". But it really isn't a big deal I like the mag pouches that came with my SA 1911 but the holster stayed with the box.

    What type of holster did it come with? Is it leather or plastic? I love Springfield, and have 3 1911s from the company. All have been superb, and SA's customer service is fantastic. It seems very odd the way you were treated. I'd call back, be nice and try to speak with someone else.

    Railed 1911s rarely fit in regular 1911 holsters. Keep it for your next 1911.

    I'm sorry, but, that's just ignorant. That's like including a holster for a revolver... "gee, thanks... but". Who ever dreamed up that marketing gimmick should be slapped. They should include something that you can actually USE with your purchased pistol... a spare mag, even a pocket screwdriver or pocket knife would be a better choice than a holster that won't work !!! C'mon Springfield... I certainly hope you're "more gooder" than that !

    If the Operator is going to be a carry gun, I would recommend a good carry holster for it. I would use that holster when I was on the range, you know, train as you fight and all. A good 1911 deserves a good holster.

    You have a valid claim, since the supplied holster does not fit the pistol it came with. Springfield offered to send you another one, I would have accepted. You never know, it may have worked. If it didn't, u have another range holster for a standard frame 1911.

    I think the holster that came with my TRP says that it is made in Israel, so they may be being honest when they said that they didn't have any control over the holsters.

    My friend has a MC Operator. I will check the holster that I have to see if it fits his MC. If it does, I can send it to you if you will cover shipping. I have not used it, and don't plan on using it.

    My experience with Springfield's CS has been great. The paid for shipping both ways and got my 1911 back to me in a week.

    The standard springfield holster truly is crap. You'll never use it. Honestly, you're wasting your time here.

    I used the holster that came with my XD once...for about 2 minutes. It probably costs them about a nickle but is worthless even for a range-only holster IMO. I've dealt with their customer service twice (gun/mag related, not holster) and they've made it right both times.

    I appreciate the input from everyone. A big part of why I purchased a Springfield was the Customer Service. I'm happy with the gun, the price, the mags, etc. I'm searchig for the right holster now, maybe a Comp Tac or Cross Breed. I'll just forget about the one it came with.

    S.A. customer service can't be beat for repairs, they certainly took care of me and my gun when it had to go back.

    I've never taken the holster and mag pouch that came with my Loaded out of the box so I don't know how they fit. You might call back and ask if they have a different plastic holster for they're railed guns.
