One of my bud's sent me a link, it is listed in the new "Cheaper than Dirt" catalogue. The next Extreme Shocker is some amazing ammunition from a company called DRT. Apparently if you shoot it at "organic targets" it makes an astonishing wound by creating a void or wound channel that is FIVE FEET long, FIVE FEET deep and apparently FIVE feet wide by implication. That is an amazing 125 cubic feet of space created upon impact with "organic matter". Is it a typo or what?

If a person is 6 feet tall, 2 feet wide and one foot thick, he covers approximately 12 cubic feet. So does the person disappear into ether? I mean if simply striking a person causes this gigantic hole in space, it must create a vacuum and cause the person to turn into anti-matter?:what:

This stuff has to be as good as that Extereme Shock Ammo that used to blow up the people attacked by mall ninjas.:neener:

When fired from a 120 mm smoothbore sabot at 5000 fps, maybe.

"DRT ammunition appears to be a carefully manufactured product. Reliability was 100% (Of course, we were shooting highly reliable pistols!) Subjectively, the recoil and muzzle blast of the DRT 9mm load felt like normal 9x19 ammunition. It does not seem to be loaded to +P velocity and pressure, nor does it seem to be a low recoil load. We think that it is probably standard pressure ammunition loaded within the SAAMI maximum average pressure specification of 35,000 psi.

Unfortunately, we were not able to confirm the bullet expansion/fragmentation claimed by DRT. At a distance of about 10 yards, we shot into gallon jugs of water, nine layers of 7/16" oriented strand board (OSB) and, in desperation, a dirt bank. In no case did we get one of these supposedly frangible bullets to expand. It made a 9mm hole through the water jugs, a 9mm hole through all nine layers of OSB and a 9mm hole in the dirt. All of the bullets that we recovered were essentially unchanged except for rifling marks. We did not have access to calibrated ballistic gelatin and therefore were not able to attempt to reproduce the tests documented by DRT on their web site."

That quote is from Chuck Hawk's review of the stuff. I guess the stuff expands just like a FMJ bullet until it hits something "organic".

Just what we need - a bullet which expands in benzene.

OSB is organic. Is it possible that their claim in untrue?

I think that OSB doesn't count as "organic" in this case. Yes, VERY possible, just look at extreme shock ammo.

i find it rather disgusting that they peddle these bullets under false (supposedly) advertising. this isnt toothpaste, people trust their lives to their choice of ammo. this sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen, just a shame someone may have to die for it to get noticed.

then again, if it works... cool

I think it'd be a good thing for the NRA via it's publications to test some of these items and, if they don't seem to work right, get feedback from the manufacturers.

There are a lot of guns and shooters in the world yet we exist mostly in a land of myth and legend. Frex, what kills better - slow heavy wide bullets (Elmer Keith) or light slim fast bullets (Weatherby)? People are still arguing that one.

I heard from a WWII vet that in the European theater, the Germans prized captured 1911's because the 45 acp killed better while US troops prized captured P38's because the 9mm killed better. To my knowing, pistol lore hasn't advanced any more nor has any firearm data gotten harder.

In the Cheap as Dirt catalog I've got it says 5" x 5", so the volume of a roughly spherical 5 INCH area, not a 5' (five foot) sphere. Makes a difference.

Yet another example of low-weight, high-velocity bullets that look like they leave an impressive wound being touted as the best thing ever and having some marketing genius with an overactive ninja obsession slapping a premium price on it.

    Typo's and reading errors aside.

DRT ammo is similar to other's that have preceded it. They are not magic bullets, etc., etc.

Following is link to two of their videos. Please note that performance is pretty good (as shown) but no where near the devastation suggested in advertising, and certainly not worth the price being asked. At least in my opinion.

    You be the judge ...

So, Let Me Get This Straight...

If they make this stuff in .45 ACP, I can kill elephants with a one shot stop.

In .44 Magnum, it'll destroy any known armored vehicle.

Where do I send my credit card number?

I like the second video. He says a fellow shot a deer with it and the bullet vaporized in about an inch but "stringers" from the bullet destroyed the oppposite shoulder, severed the spinal cord and exploded the liver.

Basically the magic bullet traveled throughout the insides of the animal exploding organs, bones and nerves, now that is amazing.

Am I the only one that sees flaws in the whole concept of a bullet that instantly turns to powder upon impact (their claim). If you have a 124gr bullet that disintegrates into millions of particles weighing .001gr each, how is this different than loading a shotgun with baby powder?

Of course, it doesn't work... and at least the jacket will get decent penetration if it did work.

the SHOCK in Extreme ammo occurs when you see the price
the expansion occurs in the salesmans pocket when he puts your money in it.
