Ammerican Ammunition, Inc. Good?

Is American Ammunition, Inc. ammo good? Looking at a case price for 40S&W 180g at about $135.

not what you asked but....

I won't by anything from them b/c they keep spamming my in-box!!

basic rule with me if a company sends me more than one unsolicited ad a week they do NOT get my money, doubly so if the ad-copy acts as if i'm braindead.

If you're not a reloader then it's about as good as any, goes bang every time. The brass is total crap. I'll buy Wolf before I'll buy A-MERC.

I think if you do a search here, you'll find a lot of people had problems with that stuff. I recall quite a few complaints about squib loads etc. One of my local sporting goods stores sold it for awhile, then did a recall due to this problem, now they don't sell anymore. Be careful.

Five years ago, their 9mm ammunition caused me to send my K9 back to the factory due to multiple failures to feed (cartridge would wedge tightly 3/4 in the chamber). Got the K9 back with a note asking me not to use American Ammunition in their product anymore, as that ammunition isn't resized during the reloading process. Sure enough, it was the ammunition... not a single problem since.

For that reason, I won't use them. If I want cheap ammo, it's S&B or PMC.

American Ammunition scares me! Some shots will sound louder than others... extremely inconsistent. Bullets are prone to key-holing. The bullets themselves are not jacketed, merely copper-coated lead. Junk, junk, and triple junk!!!

I assume you mean the stuff in the clear plastic blister packs? A fired round seized up one of my Sigs to the point where it almost had to be sent back to the factory for repair. The slide could not be pulled back to extract the fired case. After much banging, it finally cycled back and extracted the case. I'll never use the stuff again.

American Ammo (Miami, FL) is the ONLY brand that would not function in my KP-90 Ruger (.45ACP).

Not to be confused with American Eagle Brand by Federal...good stuff

Buddy gave me part of a box of A-AMerc .38 spl...very inaccurate in his Mdl 10 Smith. Tried some in my cheapy RG-38 subby....all over the paper, and keyholes, too. Tried a cylinder full in my .357Vaquero, same result.

When we looked closely at a couple of rounds, we noticed the crimp looked, well...odd. pulled 5 apart, and "miked" them .353" diameter...too small for even 9mm Parabellum.

If you want good ammo at a reasonable price, try PMC (red & white box), Sellier & Bellot (couple of different color schemes) or Mag-tech. I have had good results with those 3 brands in .38/.357/.45ACP. Shooting buddy likes Mag-tech in his .45Colt caliber Vaquero.

A-Merc will bulge almost 80% whenI seat bullets in .45 acp. No matter how much bell I use.

The ONLY headstamp I won't use.

Try Proload at www.proload.com - I just ordered 500 Winchester Ranger and talked to the owner, "Crazy John" for a while on the phone. Seems like a great guy and they have some "packages" to chose from.

A-Merc is garbage. Trust me, you're better off spending a little more money for decent ammo like S&B or Winchester.

The one and only time I shot A-Merc, it was amazing inconsistent, and generally inaccurate.

So, no, American Ammunition is pretty much trash through and through.

I bought a box to try as it was cheap, never again. Most of the time when I would chamber a round the bullet would be pushed back into the case. I solved this by crimping them all with a lee factory crimp die but I don't wanna do that all the time or I wouldn't have bought factory ammo in the first place!

It seems to me that I remember reading about American Ammo blowing up at least two or three pistols. One of them was at either Gunsite or Thunder Ranch if I recall. I would stay far away from it.

You guys need to be reloading. $140 per K for 40 with 180 FMJ is insane!!!!!! I load that for less than $75 EASY!!!!!! Not counting two hours of my time but still.....

Think about how you would shoot and how much you would shoot if you had a basically unlimited supply of ammo and the cost was less than half of what you pay now. Think about what your shooting goals are now and where you want to get.

Back to the original topic. AMERC is garbage and that is only because this is a family channel, I would like to tell you what it actually is but should not.

I still have about a case and a half left of A-MERC. As much as I like to shoot it all off, I won't. Safer for me and safer for my guns.

Say, does anyone have any idea how I should dispose these cartridges?

;) If you are certain you can't stand a given load of ammo, even factory, and you reload, then pulling the bullet, dumping the powder, and seating a bullet of your liking over fresh new powder of your preference is then possible. :) You will have sucessfully recycled the brass, the most expensive part of your load, since as you seat the new bullet, you will also provide enough new crimp to hold it together.
Maybe this will help.

As I say, i've had only a couple of the ten boxes I bought used up. I've had failure to feed, due to light load in the ammo, and remembering that Glock uses really stout springs to get the job done. If you don't reload, try WOLF or CCI BLAZER to cut your costs. I and several other Glock users have had great luck with the power and accuracy of them, in comparison to the American Ammunition from Miami, Fla.

I don't even trust the components. Besides, I'm too lazy to reload in the first place, so...

I bought them long before I discovered ammoman.com. Now I buy most of my ammo from the latter (usually Federal American Eagle). I might give CCI Blazer a try through Natchesz.
