I'm looking to organize my magazines in ammo cans and I'd like to use foam inserts for better organization in the can and to protect the mags and whatnot, but those foam inserts are not cheap. We're talking $15 for just the inserts on top of the cans that cost $10-15. What are my options for foam blocks that I'll cut to size myself? What about using spray foam and filling the ammo can with it and then cutting the pocket for the mags to sit in? Really just looking for the cheapest option that will work with my $3 Harbor Freight cans.
go to the craft store and buy a sheet. cut with a sharp knife to fit. Or find someone in shipping they probably have chunks of foam they will give you.
I think I found what I'm looking for, about $1 a block and close enough in size to fit the small Habor Freight cans. https://www.joann.com/floracraft-2-5-8inx3-1-2inx7-7-8in-floral-foam-blocks-6pk-green/2092807.html EDIT: On second thought this is probably not the best foam to use.
Wood is good. You're looking to protect the lips from being twerked during transit, right? Wood will keep the magazine tubes from being jostled from side to side. A scrap of carpet can cushion the lips if you don't want to do the elastic strap thing.
Not closed cell foam. Camping pad 72"x20" from walmart, less than $20 https://www.walmart.com/ip/BLUE-72-...-ce6-16d79352f2115a&athancid=null&athena=true
