my ammo (well, most of it) is in the basement under my reloading bench. i would be afraid to put that much weight on the floor joists in my house.

They replaced a vault at the local bank a couple of months ago. I bought it, had it transported to my home, and that is now for my guns , ammo, and valuables. Yeah, it cost me only $2300 for the safe, but, with transport, construction, etc... I have $8500 in it now, but I added $20,000 to my home value!!

That is sweet, do you have any pics of that set up? I want to do a big safe room when we build our next house in a couple of years.

I can't keep ammo in my safe because it's too full and there is too much ammo. I do keep most of my loaded mags in the safe with the exception of 10 or so AR mags. I keep about 8,000 rounds of various ammo sitting in my supply room in the basement.

I wouldn't store ammunition in a safe, safes are designed to create an air tight seal when exposed to high temperatures.

The steel stack on cabinets are not air tight and make a great way to restrict access to ammunition, plus they are affordable.

I only keep my 50 cal BMG in my safe. Those suckers cost close to $5 a piece. All my other calibers, I keep a few SD rounds in my safe, but I keep most in my army 50 cal cans.

Currently no safe, working on that. I figure a smaller one for now (while the collection is small). Eventually that collection will grow in size. When it does, I'll buy a new (and bigger) safe, and simply migrate the ammo to the smaller one.

The weight of the ammo should be enough to prevent even the smaller safe from going anywhere.
