For the second time recently, I had the opportunity to drive onto one of our military bases. My brother is retired military so we store the bass boat that he and I own on the base boat storage lot.

Fortunately, before I went on the base, both times, I had the good sense to take my usual collection of guns that regularly go to the range out of the back end. However, both times, I left ammo cans and targets where they were.

These cool guys in fatiques and carrying did as thorough an inspection as any airport check, but they were much more cool about it than the airport guys. The first time, they just looked at everything an passed me on through. Yesterday, the second time, after giving the SUV a thorough going over, one of them asked if I had any firearms onboard, having just looked at two cans of ammo. I said no. He nodded and off I went.

Damn nice guys, and very impressive.

Hint: Don't forget to unpack before you go onto a military base. :)
