Ancient .22 Revolver

It's an eight-shot, six-inch barrelled .22 DA revolver. The grip is shaped like a Bisley Colt. The markings on the strap say, "?JA & C Wks". Then, "FITCHE USC MASS.USA" Reading the other way on the strap is "-? TARGET SEALED 8-"

Dunno where my father got it. My wife sat down in an old blanket-covered recliner chair and felt this strange lump under the blanket. It was loaded with ratshot.

Sounds like an old Iver Johnson "Sealed 8"; they used to be called the Iver Johnson Arms and Cycle Works, based in Fitchburg, Mass.

A friend had a Sealed 8 that was actually a very accurate handgun.

They were not bad little guns, basically the regular IJ frame adapted to .22. IIRC most had the 6" barrel and but there were some made with a short (3"?) barrel.

The "8" referred to the number of shots, the "sealed" referred to the flanged cylinder that prevented side flash.

There is little collector interest in these or most IJ revolvers. Even in new condition, they only bring about $100 or so, and average ones are hard to sell even at $50.

This one has a good bit of finish, but the words "cylinder" and "lockup" are not really compatible.
