My annual (9th) BP shoot was today. Three relays of 5 shots per target. I had a fourth target ready, but a steady drizzle set in. The aroma of pulled pork and baked beans had a gravitational pull away from the range and inside the shop where the tables, chairs, food, and drink were waiting.
Humble prizes of one pound of thick cut peppered bacon were given to the winners of each relay, and one for the overall aggregate winner.

I am always too busy to take pictures, then I regret it later.

Here is what I have for those interested... 20250329_155751.jpg 20250329_151942.jpg 20250329_153019.jpg 20250329_135002.jpg
I recently had a cataract removed from my right(dominant) eye. That was all fine and good, but the new lens was faulty, and I had to remove it and put in a new one....5 days ago.😵‍💫.....not fine. Considerable pain....cloudy vision....I couldnt see my front sight.
So.........
I shot left handed with my flintlock.
I didnt win any bacon...but I did get some satisfaction in shooting this spider.....left handed. 20250329_154350.jpg
A good time and good food was enjoyed by all.

That is one hell of a target for a black powder gun! For any gun! I'm sure that will be displayed somewhere near and dear to your heart.

I think it passed on to its next life. Only a perfect bullseye remains with legs.
It has entered the only realm fit for such abominations… gah.

Like @tightgroup tiger said.....a perfect bullseye.

A "spider" is a term used by the "over the log" Alvin York style shooting matches.
When you perfectly shoot a hole in the center of the Xring on a target...leaving only the legs of the X......thats a 🕷 spider.
It is a rare thing indeed, this one is my first. 40 yds, open sights, .45 flintlock. Left handed...lol

Ill admit a certain level of skill to hit the xring....but a perfect spider requires a great deal of luck.

Ah. Thank you for your explanation. It makes sense now.

I cleaned out my .45 shooting box after several years there was an accumulation of unused odds and end that needed pitched...
This is some of my gear that I deemed useful:

I have similar shooting boxes for all my bp rifles of different calibers.
.32
.40
.45
.54
My favorite is an antique black leather doctor's bag that served my dad for years as his trapshooting bag. Now it holds the accoutrement for my family heirloom .40 cal original caplock.

Can you tell me more about the rifle pictured in the top pic? I have a very similar one going on the lock and trigger guard and can’t find much info about it.

Looks like a great shoot
