Dad forwarded this to me today (for those who weren't aware, Dad just retired from the Guard as a Lt. Col of about 25 years, and still works as a GS-15 at AF Materiel Command). Some real wisdom in here.
    (All emphasis mine.)

That's probably the best summation of 'the big question' that I've ever seen, great post.

I hadn't thought of it that way.

Does anyone else find it amusing that he compares the fall of communism and the release of a communist terrorist as being both equally "great triumphs of human spirit? Amnesty International even commented that because of his "acts of sabotage and inciting violence", Nelson Mandela should not be listed as a political prisoner.

Aside from that one minor source of amusement, I agree with almost everything he has to say. Especially his comments on voting. Even if you dislike both parties, find a third party to vote for. Every vote counts, even if you know in advance said third party will not win. There is no such thing as "throwing away a vote", except for voting fraud and not voting. ;)

To be fair it was mostly Winnie, Nelson's wife, so you could say Nelson was associating with known terrorists, if he wasn't in solitary so much. And to be even more fair I find that particular event to be more towards my viewpoint of 'freedom fighters' than 'terrorists'.
