Another SUB-2000?

I previously owned a Sub-2000 in 9mm that took Glock mags. It fired accurate enough and was fun to shoot, but mine was not very reliable. It seemed to pull incredible amounts of crud into the bolt system and it jammed at least a couple times every outing. I've been really thinking about trying another one, but am skeptical. Anyone have a better experience with theirs? How about with other mag configurations?

Please, let's not turn this into a rifle vs pistol carbine debate.

I've heard many stories about unreliable KelTecs of all sorts... funny thing is I've never seen one. Trust me, I'll have to count, but I've got ten laying around the shop, easy. I'm sure there are lemons out there, but I think the proportion of lemons vs. good guns is not nearly as bad as might be thought. That being said, you might try another one. Personally, if I buy a gun that is unreliable, I usually have a bad taste in my mouth and avoid that type on principle. Your choice.

And if you can, carry a rifle caliber gun that's that size. There are two that get close. The KT SU16 and the Armalite AR-180 are both in that size class. The only reason to have a pistol caliber carbine are for fun or if you cannot use a rifle caliber for some reason. This "Ammo Compatibility" issue is bunk. If a department or individual spends $600 on a gun, they can sure afford to buy a few extra magazines and a few more boxes of ammo so they have enough of BOTH ammo. We aren't waiting for a resupply truck anyhow.

I identify with your "bad taste in my mouth" comment. That's kinda where I'm at with the Sub-2000 series. I've just been wanting to verify if other people have had the same experience as mine or otherwise.

I agree with your view on rifle carbines and I do have a couple rifle carbines. My want for a pistol carbine is mainly for fun. But I do not like having firearms (unless they are of sentimental or collector value) that are not dependable.

Haven't owned the Sub2K long enough to tell you if it's reliable or not. One FTF I've had was with light loads of bad ammo, split case at the top of a USA brand aftermarket magazine with 30 rounds pressing up on the bolt. Can't say that was fair to the gun. Look at it this way, for a fun-gun, what's wrong with a few FTF's every once in a while? Sure, two or three times an outing might be annoying, but for the cost of the gun you might consider it par for the course if it were a lesser gun.

BUT, that gun should be more reliable. Chances are that yours was a bit of a lemon. I've heard most of the problems are with the Glock models for some reason.

Cos, I think you had a lemon. Did you try getting kel-tec to put it right under warranty? They will, you know.

I have somewhere in the area of 5000 rounds through my sub, and don't recall a single hiccup so far. I've heard that some of the triggers are pretty bad, but mine seems pretty darn good for plastic. I bought mine as a toy, but have come to respect it as a nice little carbine.

Go ahead and buy one again. Worst case scenerio is having to ship it in for warranty work, but they will put any problems right. To be honest, I believe the same caviat is present with springfield armory, as well as other 'big name' companies. I've had more problems with my springfields than with my kel-tecs.

i've got one in 40S&W, and other then one box of winchester from wal-mart it has always went bang. I love it, except it bites you in the cheek a bit,
