Another supressor for my 22/45

Hehe I couldnt help it I had another supressor made for my 22/45 and its even better than the previous one i had, had it fabricated from aluminum then had it brushed, i discovered a new gunsmith whose had a passion for silencers since he was a teen and true enough the gemtech k-baffles sound like crap compared to what he made with this one, this new one i had made sounds like a person saying SHHHH while coughing... kinda hard to describe hehe, like a tire deflating suddenly from a hole but it lasts abouthalf a sec or something. The first picture is the silencer i had fabricated before then the next pictures are from the newer one.

Why?
Aren't they illegal?
If so, why would you knowingly break the law?
That kind of stuff doesn't help our cause.
 
Norb - They're not illegal at all, just heavily regulated. For an individual to legally own a suppressor all they have to do is pay a $200 fee to the BATF for the "tax stamp", pass the background checks and pay for the suppressor itself. As long as it's legal to own the NFA items (suppressors, full-auto guns, short-barreled rifles/shotguns, etc) in the OP's state and he's followed the rest of the procedure, he's 100% good-to-go.
 
FASCINATING! I've had a design of my own for many years, but have been scared to death of the scary BATF punishment. I drew it up in cad even. So, do I just write the BATF? If my design doesn't work can I make another one that does with the same stamp?
 
HisSoldier - In general, you have to be a licensed manufacturer to produce NFA items (except for machineguns, those are a different thing altogether since the mid-80's). I seem to recall a way to make a suppressor on your own and have it be legal, but for the life of me I can't remember what the process is. It is different from the process necessary to purchase one through a licensed dealer/manufacturer though.

I suggest you search for a Class III dealer in your area, and ask your questions there. Or, go to the source and give the BATF a call. From what I hear, they're usually pretty friendly and helpful. Just let them know what you're trying to do, and that you're interested in finding out if there is indeed a legal way to do so as a private citizen without a manufacturer's license.

And as far as I know, one stamp=one item. I think that some suppressor makers are able to sort of work around that but once again I'm pretty sure that even for them it's a bit of a hassle to do so.
 
Norb, unhook yourself from the media's leash. machineguns, silencers, short barreled (sawed off) shotguns & rifles, AOW's (pen guns, cane guns ect) Destructive devices (howitzers, 40mm flak guns, m203 grenade launchers ect)

Are all legal for civilians to own.. (provided thay live in one of the states that allow such devices, most do) and have BATFE approval (the tax stamp)

All you have to do is submit a form1 (with CLEO signoff [not needed w/ trusts & corps]), certificate of compliance, and a $200 check to the atf. Once you get ATF approval you can build you silencer.

Guys guys guys...

Guys forgot to mention that i live in the philippines although i do believe its posted below my avatar, we doont have supressor laws here hehe, ive been firing it for awhile now and the sound of thhe round hitting soft earth is louder that the round being fired hehe im really pleased by what the gunsmith did the whole thing cost me about 160 in us dollars
