I recently posted about finally acquirin.g a Beretta 71 after many years of seeking a good piece. Recently my uncle and cousin came out to visit me and my dad. To my surprise, he presented me my grandfathers Beretta 948 he purchased in 1957. Crazy gold anodized frame, but great fit and finish. My uncle said that he often got to wear it out in the woods when he was a kid. Before we get sentimental, my grandfather was a mean cuss to everyone, and there a few if any pleasant memories that any of us have.

Apparently, according to the included receipt, he traded a SW "Combat Revolver" and five bucks for it. Still in good shape after 67 years and a fun shooter. We just went plinking in the desert, so no precsion check with those tiny sights. GREAT trigger and no malfunctions out of about 200 rounds down range.

She's a great companion to my 71. 948 right.jpg 948right.jpg 948holster.jpg 948box.jpg recber948.jpg berpair.jpg )

I foolishly passed on a couple of those back in the day, and when you see them now, prices are crazy. The frames will often take on a greenish hue, and the bluing turns plum sometimes giving a very, uh, unique, palette. Lol.

Gotta wince, though, that he may have traded a S&W Model 15, (or worse an M18) for it.... :what:

Great heirloom, and with all the papers too! Congrats.

Curious about the reference to a 'pistol "plinke"' on the paper work. Neat little 22 what every they called it.

When it rains it pours I guess. Found the 71 a few weeks back, got the 948 a few days ago, and WHAM, just found this Beretta 87 on the Bass Pro site. She's inbound tomorrow. I have a nice rimfire trifecta! PS, there is another one on the site, for a few dollars more with the Cheetah name.
