Two of my local Walmarts don't have rifles. I know a few others have mentioned this, but I'm beginning to wonder if any Walmart stores in California carry firearms. Can anyone answer this?

I'm almost certain that California Wal-Marts got rid of their guns a while ago.
The unfortunate part is that many Wal-Marts in other places are now beginning to follow suit (none of my local Wal-Marts near Baltimore carry them any longer).
Kinda sucks because you would walk into a great deal every now and then.

That's what I was afraid of. I like a lot of things about California, but sometimes it's pretty weak.

I wouldn't be surprised if all California stores stopped carrying firearms. Most of the Wal Marts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area have stopped carrying firearms.

Santa Clara county Walmart post the sign on the gun department 4 years ago that they temporaly stop selling any firearms until they could catch up with the new law ,They still have not figure out the California gun law yet because they still have not offer any guns in the sporting department .

The reason why CA Wal-Marts stopped selling firearms since 2004 was because, after being audited by CA DOJ, they were found to be improperly selling firearms.
Wal-Mart was fined $14.5 million due to all their violations.
Violations ranged from selling ammunition to minors, not documenting a safety device was sold with each firearm purchase, not conducting background checks on employees that sold firearms, letting buyers take possession of firearms before the end of the CA waiting period and selling firearms to prohibited persons (felons).
Under court order, CA Wal-Marts can not resume selling firearms until it complys with all CA and Federal firearm laws. Due to the fine it had to pay, Wal-Mart made the decision to no longer sell firearms in CA.

I was told by a Wal-Mart emp. (a relative of mine) that thier FFL in TX had expired and they would start selling again when it go renewed. I Know that OK Wal-marts still sell them. The one in Ardmore does anyway.
IMPO I think they are letting all of thier FFLs expire and have no plans to renew them.
Wal-Mart has gone down hill since the Ole' Man passed away. It used to be run for the customer but now its run for the pockets of the big dogs.
My brother in law worked for one of the DCs. He went to work sick, THEY sent him home and then wrote him up for it. Figure that one out.

Walmart stopped selling guns based on market trends in certain areas. Who cares? Buy your guns elsewhere. These threads never cease to amaze me. You'd think Walmart was a close relative the way some of you pour your emotion into it.

Wal-Mart's still selling rifles and shotguns in nearby Arab. The two Huntsville Wal-Marts on the South Parkway stopped about a year ago; they still sell ammo, though.

Most of the new stores in AZ don't have a rifle display case anymore. But there are plenty WM's in the area that do. Special ordering a rifle can save you a lot over the local gun shop. BUT I wouldn't cry if Wal-Mart stopped selling rifles. Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops, Sportsmans Warehouse, and Crossroads of the West Gun Show can easily fill that void.

Frankly from my experience dealing with the gun-counter-personnel at most Wal-Mart stores, Wal-Mart is uttely incapable of hiring people who are qualified for the job. It just pains me to encounter somebody working there who doesn't know a .22 from a shotgun, or a scope from a flaslight.

I called up my local Wal-mart a few weeks ago to see if they carried scope rings-
*phone rings for 10 minutes, i get bounced around til they get someone behind the sporting goods counter*
Employee: "Wal-mart, this is ******* speaking"
Me: "Hello, do you folks sell Leupold rings?"
Employee: "Hold on sir, this is the sporting goods department, let me transfer you to the jewelry departme-"
Me: "Wait!!! I need SCOPE RINGS. You know, for a rifle scope..."
Employee: "You mean like a ring with a picture of a gun on it??(confused)"

Thats not entirely true. Its not a statewide thing, as my parents live in San Antonio, and I've seen firsthand that they still sell firearms in several stores (but not all). However, here in FW, they no longer sell at any locations that I've been to. They might at some, but I know for fact that they dont at the Hulen or McCart locations.

Only one Wal-mart I know of in my area sells the rifles anymore. Anytime i'm in there I take a wander back and see what they have. got a good deal on my Henry Lever action in there and keep hoping to get the same for a Shotgun or the like

I think the bemoaning comes not from some great love of Walmart, but from the feeling that we are taking yet another hit in our sport and our freedoms. It isn't that we must get firearms from Walmart, but when Wally World stops selling, who else is next?
Of course, Sears, JC Penny, Montgomery Wards, and K-Mart stopped selling years ago, but then, when Sears sold firearms, men who bought rifles were not looked upon with scorn. A hunter was perfectly respectable. For heaven's sake, Andy Taylor took Opie hunting and Barney Fife and the other fellows hunted. These days, the national culture is not friendly to shooting sports. You won't find Ray Ramano hunting, and you certainly won't find Dr. Huxtable doing it.
We don't need Walmart, Sears, or somebody on TV supporting firearms of course. But it seems like just one more incoming shell to many gun owners. For me, I hate it that many stores sell gun magazines next to porn. I suppose if viewed philosophically, they should be next to porn mags as they are generally suitable for the pictures and NOT the text inside, but I personally hate being lumped in with porn.
I no longer buy firearms from Walmart. I suppose I am part of the reason Wally World stops selling firearms. So be it. I don't care. But I do understand where the sentiment comes from.

It's pretty simple, actually. Wal-Mart quit selling rifles at the stores where
sales dropped below an acceptable level. Generally, those locations are in cities (or states) that have become too "yuppified". I don't know of any in KY where that's happened. When the profit doesn't outweigh the problems, why bother?

Walmart provides competition. Competition helps keep prices in check. What never ceases to amaze me is the automatic antipathy many feel toward Walmart. I can sort of understand the attitude of liberals toward it -- it is too plebian for them. I also feel for the smaller shop owners, in smaller towns, who get edged out when a WW comes to town. But times change, and so does the way we do commerce. Schumpeter did not call capitalism a "gale of creative destruction" without good reason.
I'm taking the wife to dinner tonight, and then we are going shopping at WW. I'll pick up some ammo and some emergency prep supplies. She'll buy clothes. Welcome to America.

Two of the three stores in Topeka had to stop selling them when asked why was told only the top 20% of stores who met there quota of sales where allowed to retain their FFL.

While I have no love for walmart/china, I do want them to carry firearms.
The reality is that lots and lots of people shop there (and some it seems, no where else). I want the average mom and dad to see guns for sale, to understand that "even walmart sells them", and they guns aren't "just for the police and military.

Walmart selling guns is a good thing. Particularly when the few gunshops in town prefer to sell their rifles and ammunition way overpriced. Nobody is forcing you to shop at Walmart, anyway. No, they don't have much. No, they don't have EBRs. Yes, their people can be quite stupid. But they do have reasonably priced ammunition and basic supplies.
