Anti called me "Rambo"

What a maroon!!

I probably would have quoted my sig line at him. "Killin' don't mix with a mans supper." I would have then greatly enjoyed watching him turn a sickly, pallid yellow.:D

"Uncle Lou? That you? When did they let you out of prison?" <really loud and enthusiasticly>

When I used to open carry in Phx (before I moved to the socialist paradise that is California) people usually asked me if I was a cop. I'd usually respond that I was just there to buy a couple of twinkies and a Big Gulp.

Over my long lifetime I have occasionally run into one of those kooks, more often regarding religion. There is nothing you can say or do to change their minds. I think you handled it very well. BTW, in another lifetime I was in a mercenary type profession. We had one of the guys in our outfit whose name really was John Rambo.

Antis

Through the course of my life, I've often encountered people who have a real problem with somebody doing something that they, themselves wouldn't do.
It can range from the way others stack dishes to the car that they choose to drive...and some of'em can be quite hostile about it. If you're related to, or are closely associated with people of this nature, it eventually dawns on you that they actually have a deep-seated mental/emotional problem and very likely a need to control others' actions, and...if the whole truth is known...that drive to control even extends to your very thoughts and feelings.

So, it's not really a matter of "Do not as I do, but rather as I say" as much as it is: "Be like me! I'm smarter than you and you have no need, nor any right to do/think/feel any way other than the way that I do."

Such people are to be pitied. They go through their entire lives agonizing over the fact that everybody isn't of the same mindset as they are.

Hmmm...Sounds like I just described the average leftist liberal politician.:scrutiny: Scary...

You hit the nail on the head. I have/had a friend who, over the course of the last 5 years (and attendance at the local, *very liberal* university) has turned from being a strongly opinionated person to being a completely intolerant individual. If someone has different tastes in food or movies, has different views on politics or society, then, in the eyes of my "friend", that person is obviously wrong and intellectually inferior. Of course, my former acquaintance rarely openly admits his arrogance, but there's no masking it. This former friend has absolutely no problem with flying off the handle and screaming the most awful things if you happen to disagree with him...

Such people are to be pitied, but as far as I'm concerned, if I can't have civil interaction with the person, then such a one is to be actively avoided, as well.

I was openly carrying my bow and explosive tip arrows the other day, and I was called Rambo as well! Must be the same guy.

What is really Ironic is that Rambo, Sylvestor Stallone, is so anti-gun that he said that the authorities need to go into homes and confiscate guns if people don't give them up!

Otherwise - take it as a compliment.

They tell me that you can do that here in Ohio, but I think that you would be on the concrete spread eagle, more than you would be upright
There's a guy in one of the Toledo suburbs about to put a hurtin' on the local PD about this. It's been on several messageboards. I think he's planning on changing the name of the town to "Dan'sburg". :D

EXACTLY!!

I used to get called 'Rambo' all the time before I had firearms due to my passion for all things Military, I just used to say "thank you":)

Now I've got firearms people don't say it anymore  ,
bear in mind I live in country where most folk have never seen a 'real' gun.

I now get called 'Action Man', not sure what I prefer?

We're in complete agreement on that point as well...though it's not always easy to avoid such folk. Family members...EX-WIVES...:D Employers...the list goes on, and it's really surprising at just how numerous they are, and how often you encounter them in the course of a day.

that guy is lucky...

that you were the rational adult. God only knows what would have happened if you were as nuts as he was.

Glock? Hmmm. Just dawned on me.

I'd bet he was a Kimber owner. :) Pysch!

So how does this explain the many antis who have CCW permits? Of course, I suppose they might feel sufficiently superior to be able handle CCW but the common herd isn't. But then we CAN'T be like them! Did anybody claim logic applied here?

You would've really miffed him if you'd said "Sir, that's my SISTER, and WHO is Rambo?". Would've made him feel old AND moronic.

The guy goes off on you over nothing.
He ascribes motives to you out of his own imagining--.
"you're trying to be cool in front of your girlfriend."
He uses the S*** and the F*** words in front of your sister
thinking she is your girlfriend. He is definitely being not cool.
No trying there.

What he is doing is telling you HE would carry a pistol
to impress HIS girlfriend.
IF he had one.
He lives alone in the desert in Arizona with fifty cats,
and writes memos in Microsoft Word Times New Roman purporting
to be typewritten memos from Richard Nixon confessing
to faking Neil Armstrong's moon walk. He just know its true,
just as he knew your motivations.

You did right by keeping your cool
and you and your sister had a laugh.

You've just answered your own question...

The best approach is to say nothing unless he becomes excessively agressive. No facial expressions, no winking, no wise cracks - nothing.

You're not going to convince him that it's a good idea, or that it's your right.

The way to deal with such individuals is to let them make a fool of themselves while you remain calm and composed.

I can think of a bunch of answers

"I'm not Rambo, I'm Napoleon"

"The little voices told me I'm John Wayne"

""You're wrong sir, I am the reincarnation of Wyatt Earp"

"You don't like Glock?, ok next time I promise it will be a 1911"

"Yes, it's a gun!, is that a toupe?"

Or just stand up and yell real loud

"Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don't turn it off! It wasn't my war! You asked me I didn't ask you! And I did what I had to do to win, for somebody who wouldn't let us win! Then I come back to the world, and I see all those maggots at the airport, protestin' me, spittin', callin' me a baby killer and all kinds of vile crap! Who are they to protest me?! Huh?! Who are they?! Unless they been me and been there and know what the hell they yellin' about!"

"They drew first blood , not me....."
