Italians and Slovenians are of the same race but different ethnicities.
Uh, no. Where are you getting your "facts"?
The Slovenians are Slavs. The fact that they occupy an area that used to be Italian does not make them Italian. The western part of Slovenia and the coastal area of the former Yugoslavia (Istria, Illyria, Dalmazia) all used to be Italian, or more properly Venetian. But that doesn't make the Slavs that now occupy those areas anywhere remotely related to the Italians.
So unless you're counting European as a race, Italian != Slovenian.
Sorry to be prickly about it but I've listened for hours and hours to my brother-in-law recount how Tito tried hard to erase any trace of Italians ever having been in some of those areas. I forget how many Italians fled those areas after WWII and resettled in Friuli-Venezia-Giulia but I'm pretty sure it was multiple hundreds of thousands.
