I was looking for specs on the Mossberg 195K I purchased 43 years ago and, like all the toys of my youth, appears to be an "antique". I ran across web sites listing this firearm in good condition at up to $250.

Is this for real?

I only paid $49 plus CA tax for mine. I think of it more as a white elephant than an antique.

I think in good condition these guns range in the 75-100 dollar range. I have the 20 guage version with a set of three chokes and if somebody offered me 250 I think it would be gone in a minute.

Price depends on how much someone is willing to pay. I'd look at the auction sites and see what they are going for. But, the 2006 standard catalog of firearms lists all the Mossberg bolt action shotguns as having approximately the same value. They give them values of Exc.-90, VG-65, Good-50. I'd keep it and use it.

I've no intent to sell, was just looking for specs for gun case length as it was not within reach for direct measurement. I was surprised to turn up the price info during the search.

I think the wood in the stock is amazing for a $49 gun and it is probably the only gun that can be within 100 yds of me without the blue job (excellent condition) falling apart so I might as well keep it around.

It would be fun to be able to say that my investment in the gun could bring back 5 times the original. Unfortunately that is not likely to be the case as I've had it tapped for a scope, probably marring the value.

It is surprising the range of prices on antique shotguns. A nice condition antique from Belgium with damascus barrel can be really inexpensive. American guns are usually lower priced than when new unless hand engraved. English OUs and SxSs can run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars!
