Anyone have any cool gun tips to share?

Here are some i've found.

-For hammer fire guns, stuffing a foam earplug in the hammer channel to practice dry firing instead of using snap caps.

-Depriming and resizing a spent round and cutting an eraser to fit the primer pocket for a home made snap cap.

-SKS stripper clips to hold 38spl/357

-M1 garand clips for 45 long colt

-35mm film cannister to hold 6 38spl/357

-making a mold to hold 7.62x39 to load sks stripper clips

Reach around the back of your head and pull back on your ear lobe before inserting a plug. They fit better that way.

Make your own wax bullets for revolvers by re-priming spent casings and then pushing them into a block of paraffin wax.

If you polish the chamber of your russian mil-surp to a mirror finish with a .410 shotgun swap and a dab of JB bore paste chucked into a low-speed hand drill that lacquered mil-surp ammo won't stick so bad.

Put a silicon-impregnated cloth in the bottom of your handgun safe and lay your carry gun on it every night to prevent rust.

One man's POS is another man's favorite holster.

It's not the dollar value of the gun, it's how well YOU can use it.

Use Unique.

A dryer sheet in your tumbler will drastically cut down on the dust generated while cleaning cases.

Don't EVER trust your buddy when he says it isn't loaded, especially if it's pointed toward anything you value.

Lacquer thinner will clean anything off of anything (including plastic off of itself).

Aquarium air tubing cut into 1/4 inch sections are great nipple-protectors (yes, that's gun-related ).

Most people who tell you XXX firearm is a piece of junk never actually owned one.

The little box that holds four AA batteries will also hold seven (IIRC) .357 Mag rounds. Looks inconspicuous and feels and weights about the same too. To me, the little 35mm film canister screams, “check it out, could be drugs”. A battery box is just a battery box.

That dryer sheet thing works. I use old ones.

If you have to force something apart, you're doing it wrong.

True in so many different ways!!!

You can make your own holsters with cardboard and duct tape, I do. :neener:

Yes, you can shoot 38special in .357mags just not the other way around (most of you know this, but I still get asked now and again).

No, a .22semi-auto will not cycle shorts properly.

Press the trigger between the rise and fall of your chest breathing.

Learn good shooting posture for better accuracy at the range.

You can turn an old closet into a nice safe with inside hinges and keylock deadbolts, I did.

Leaving ammo in magazines doesn't 'wear out' the springs. Loading and unloading wears it out.

A .22lr CAN kill, but it wouldn't be my first line of sd firearm.

Shot placement, not caliber, matter most.

Be very careful at free public ranges.

ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings.

D'Oh! Nice... this is one of those lightbulb moments. Why hadn't I thought of that?

I've been using the SKS stripper clips to hold 2 reloads for my snubs for years. Figger'd it out myself I did!

Great tips and awesome thread, thanks!

I respectfully disagree. I have an old Remington Model 552 "Speedmaster"
that handles shorts, longs, and long rifles interchangeably, and does a
fine job of it.:D It has been known to be a little finicky about some
BRANDS of ammo:banghead:, but the length of the cartridge doesn't seem to
matter to it.

*The more you shoot, the better you get.
*tell your wife/GF/SO about your gun purchases (if it's something she cares about)
*Buy your wife/GF/SO a gun
*Synthetic motor oil (specifically Mobil 1) is awesome!

Those are my "off the top of my head" tips.

Irons are far more reliable than lasers
Angling your elbows to the side helps control recoil.
Shop towels make great and cheap bore cloths. Tear in a triangle, twist one end tight, and pull through bore. Scrubs it out well.
A dedicated range bag with a reinforced shoulder strap is a must.

I wish i had the original picture but someone used the plastic block from an ammo box as a hole punch block. The holes for the bullets are perfect to catch the pins.

I am in the process of cleaning up two Mosin Nagant 91/30's and have been struggling to get the chambers cleaned up. Thanks, I'll try it today.
