Any crazy interactions at your LGS or sporting goods store

Wife is an RN, she works with some guys that wear Crocs... she says most of 'em of all sport man-buns as well.

Ah, well.

On topic: today at the LGS, I overheard a customer asking why they didn't have any ammo for sale. To their credit, none of the three guys behind the counter made any sarcastic remarks. I confess, I almost bought a Kimber Micro-Compact just 'cause I haven't bought a new gun in almost three weeks...

(Ain't no such thing as "manlier Crocs.")

My local Ace hardware got a bunch of Underwood Xtreme Penetrator in 9mm and .45. The clerk and some older guy are talking and I overheard the older customer ask : What does Xtreme Penetrator mean"?
The clerk who was about the same age, 70'ish said " I think it means the bullets tumble like the M16 bullets did in Vietnam.
I bit my tongue and left.

^^^^^^^^^ OUCH!
On a good note there are several threads on here and elsewhere that are reporting goodly amounts of ammo showing up and stayimg in stock. Now for prices to return to "reasonable".

I'm glad I have what I need right now and don't have to go to an LGS or box store.

Only story I can think of is one time we had some friends who were looking at buying a handgun. They had never owned or shot any kind of firearm. My wife and I had spent a fair amount of time talking with them and finding out what their needs were. My wife took the other wife and some other friends to a range and let them shoot revolvers and semi-autos. They decided on a revolver.

We go to the local Academy store and look at some revolvers. An older guy behind the counter keeps on pushing a Bersa .380. Nothing against the Bersa but that we had specifically said we were looking at revolvers. It got to the point that I had to firmly tell him to show us the revolvers that we had pointed out.

One of the other counter guys started spouting off that he was a Captain in the TXARNG during Desert Storm and we should look at the Bersa. I looked him in the eyes and asked him where he was during Desert Storm because I was a Captain at the same time, an Infantry Bn Asst. S-3 but that had nothing to do with this.

We actually had a good conversation after that and they quit offering advice but we left empty handed.

Yeah, its not moving @ $45 dollars a box.
I was just checking because they had 8 boxes of .303 brit last time I was there and didn't buy any. It was the same price range. But it was gone.

can't count how many times I've seen somebody come in with something to sell and bit my thumb going "damnit, damnit, damnit". :D

I've made deals with people in shops that didn't get offered what they wanted on a sale or trade. Even after they've been turned away, I'll still ask the GS owner or manager's blessings before pursuing a deal.

A couple of times, I've walked in and the owner pointed at me and said "I bet that guy will buy your gun". Bought a kinda rough Mossberg 500 with both barrels that way once. Middle of July, back about 10 years ago. Owner declined to buy it, told the guy to show it to me. He wanted $150, I offered $100 and he took it. Guy left, owner says "I can't believe you bought it that cheap!"
I said " I can't believe you didn't even make an offer"

"He's a deputy sheriff". Oh my lord
Additionally, I do a lot of work on patrol vehicles for the county Sheriff's Dept. Have yet to meet one who wasn't incredibly friendly and down to earth.... Have had at least 5 drop their cruiser off and leave their AR in it. 3 have backed into the sign post in front of the shop, one rear-ended another cruiser in our parking lot and at least a half dozen Chargers needed repairs from being driven into fields.

As for gun shop weirdness, I hate when the clerk is standing there telling someone "1911's are nice but you can't carry one concealed. They're too big"
I don't point out the fact that I'm carrying one, but I did inquire once "what does IWB mean? Yeah, On this holster. Says it fits all 1911's with 5" barrel. Ohhhh, I wonder why they'd make a holster like that for a gun you can't conceal"
