The title says it all--I'm in ABQ for a few days and wondered if there were any especially good LGSs anyone cared to recommend. Mostly interested in older or odd stuff. Thanks for any suggestions.

Haven't been in ABQ in almost 10 years but my buddy who lives just outside the city took me to Peterson's, ( this was about Oct. 2007). It was great, but I was just a tourist enjoying the place and wasn't buying anything at the time. They had racks and racks of some neat older stuff. I recall a few trapdoors that I was drooling over and IIRC the prices seemed fair. But that was almost 10 years ago; I wonder how much they are now? I may go out there to visit my buddy again later this year. I hope they're still around, maybe do some google and find out. There's many others but that's the only one I've been in and it was a pretty big shop and pretty interesting if you like "Gun Shop Tourism". edited to add: I just googled Peterson's Firearms, Albuquerque, and they are still there on Central Ave. Look them up; you'd probably like that place, ( I sure did).

Ron Peterson's is still the premier location for old guns, like Lugers, occasional Eddystone, or French 8mm Rolling Block with a cool sticker of $2,600. Los Ranchos has some of the more typical milsurp, but their selection is much narrower. ABQ Guns may have a couple short guns, such as 1917 and Model 22 revolvers in .45 ACP. The rest either do not carry used guns at all, or only have several. Pawn shops are hopeless, with the only exception of Osuna at 2nd. Most shops prefer selling new.

Ron Peterson on Central Avenue for old stuff.

Arnie & Belinda Gallegos at ABQ Guns on Coors Road (Montano Plaza) are great to deal with, and have the lowest FFL transfer fees ($15) in town. However, his inventory is more new than old.

I haven't been in Osuma Pawn in years, but I did have them do the transfer on three Bulgarian Makarovs that I ordered way back when they were cheap ($125 each out the door), and they were OK to deal with.

Ron Peterson is the best, especially if you want more than modern plastic guns. Stay away from ABQ Guns, last time I was there the owner had a negligent discharge with a shotgun with five people in the store. It blew a hole in the wall. I was glad to get out of there in one piece. They aren't the only place in town with $15 transfers either, Valley Pawn will do it for that among others.

Ron Peterson is probably the place to start. During the Obama gun runs they seemed to get the big head and customer service was terrible. If a customer without much knowledge asked a basic question they were made to feel like a piece of dung (my opinion as well as a couple of friends). I found most prices to be high but they will haggle.
Fouch Army in Peralta, about 25 miles south of Albuquerque has some nice old stuff but not a lot of inventory. They also manufacture ammunition and are very friendly.

Okay, Peterson's was great. I might buy a CZ-52 tomorrow. There is also the first "Japanese Winchester" I've seen in .45-70 that seemed really attractive. They were really nice folks, too--at least the guys I talked to. Thanks for the recommendation, gentlemen.

I will try the other two places if I get a chance too.
