Hello, I'm trying to find out what era my just acquires older S&W Model 37 is. I'm guessing 80s, but I'm not sure.

The on the frame butt it has number of 24J3XX (X=sectret numbers). When I open the cylinder inside it has the number 9929X and G1 sideways on the frame. Gun is blued with a square butt.

On the Barrel it say AIRWEIGHT 38 SPL. CTG.

Also the trigger, it's kind of narrow with vertical ridges almost like a file. I can actually file my finger nails on.

If anything, I'm curious about the CTG on the barrel.

CTG is simply the abbreviation for Cartridge. My S&W book only gos to 1983 on the J Frames. The 1983 serial numbers start with 1J so I would say you 37 with a serial number starting with 24J is a bit newer than that.

Does it also say MOD-37 inside the crane as well?

My 2nd ed. SCSW doesn't let me date it any closer than 1983-1988.

Thanks for the info. I figured it was a mid 80s gun.

She'll be a good car gun. Once I register it to Clark County NV.
