There is a M1917 (.30-06) in a local gun shop, for 575 +/-.

From the serial number I believe the receiver was made in 1917 / November from the internet (11,1?? Serial number range / Remington).

However it has a 11-18 dated barrel. I saw 2 sets of inspectors stamps on the stock, but did not note the initials.
Is this a "Mix Master"?
if yes, by who US govt.?
Would they have done this after WW1 or was this done later ww2?

Rifle appears to be in good shape otherwise and is made by Remington.

The M1917 went through re-arsenal. The cartouche on the stock tells you what arsenal did the work.

05/1919 the M1917 was classified as "war reserve" Re-arsenal work started and it continued through war2 and in to the early 1950's. It takes awhile to do 2.5 million rifles.

It's not unusual for the m1917 to have mismatched parts as a result of the arsenal repairs.

My Eddy had all E marked parts with the exception of the nose cap, it was a W part.

I have a M1917 that was made by Winchester in January of '18. When it went through the rebuild campaign at Ogden Armory during WWII, the only things that stayed Winchester on it (besides the receiver) were the barrel and bolt. The rest is Eddystone and all the metal was parkerized. While it is no longer original as manufactured, it still is a great rifle.

The coolest thing is the stock cartouche is the one that was used by Elmer Keith when he worked there during the war.

When the rifles were new, they were blued. When the rifles went through the arsenal, they were parkerized. That price is not too bad for a Remington 1917....chris3

I love 1917's! Hmmm, I 'll just leave it at that.

Bayonets are tough to find.

They have one I have been eyeing at my local gunshop but it is 700, which seems way to high for me.

These days, $575 for what I'm assuming is an unsporterized 1917 is a pretty decent price. If the barrel and the rest of the gun checks out, I'd buy it--with a little haggling, of course. Mine has been an excellent shooter.

Bayonets for a 1917 are easy to find. There are alot on ebay. All it takes is money.....chris3

I got mine last month. Mine is eddystone. All matching. Rifling perfect. I reload for it and at 200 yards I get 90 percent in 10 ring of an sr target. Just unbelievable accuracy. Mine also has red painted on front hand guard saying 30-06. I believe it was part of lend lease. Most I see at shows do not look great. Got mine from an old marine in south Florida. Was fortunate.

One exception. Starting about Sept 1918 the Eddystones are Parkerized. It is difficult to tell the difference from blue and park in that time period because the surface was not roughened by sandblasting before Parkerizing.
