Any problems loading brass shot shells in a 12 ga Lee Loader?

Does anyone know if there will be a problem loading brass shot shells in a 12 ga Lee Loader?

And would anyone discourage non lead shots in brass shells? I’ll mostly use the shells for grouse and the occasional duck ands goose if that’s any help.

Oh yeah, I shoot at Beretta 686 Silver pigeon and the chamber is 76 mm (2 ½“ I believe)

one problem might be primer seating.I"ve heard that newer brasss shells do not use shotgun primers.
.I think abouit all you would be abel to do is dump powder and shot with the loader.

I am not familure with the latest brass shell mentioned but I do know you cannot use the crimp features of the Lee shotshell loader, about all you can do is fill a shell with powder and shot and maybe stuff an over shot wad as older shotshells use to use. I load a lot of slugs with the lee loader for use in a Saiga 12......what a riot to shoot they do better than "angle of pie plate" at 100 yds, actually maybe 6" or slightly smaller groups...love it!

I really don't think brass shells are worth the trouble unless you want them loaded with black powder for Cowboy Action games.

Most all of them are either Berdan primed, or use Large Pistol primers.

The Lee, or any other shotshell reloading press, will neither de-prime them, prime them, or even resize them.

Then, there is a total lack of proper size plastic one-piece wads for them.

Reports of stuck wadding in barrels have been reported when trying to load them with smokeless powder.

If your gun truly has 2 1/2" chambers, you would be much better off to stick with plastic or paper 2 1/2" hulls you can get shotcup wads for.

But if it is marked 76mm, it has 3" chambers.

Hm, maybe it’s not worth it then… I was hoping to find a not-so-plastic way of hunting as I am having with the ready rolled kind. It’s the law here in Norway not to hunt with lead shots. The going fine I believe is about 1000 $ if you are caught using lead… that buys a lot of non tox.

Anyway, I don’t like the plastic spacers or shot cups. Is there a way to reloade a shell using as little plastic as possible?

If I loose the brass shells and stick to plastic, would the Lee Loader be able to do the job?
Atlasx, do you crimp those slug shells?

Well, there is always the old paper/cardboard/felt wads shotshells were loaded with years ago.

But, if you are going to shoot steel or other non-tox shoot, you almost have to use plastic shot-cups to protect the bore against damage.

Steel and most of the other non-tox shot is so hard it will score the barrel otherwise.

I'd suggest you get a copy of the Lyman Shotshell Reloading handbook and study it.

Not sure how it applies to components you can get in Norway, but is required reading for any beginning shotgun reloader anyway.

Thanks also for the book tip, it’s on my shopping list.

From what I’ve heard we rely on your data and equipment for shotguns and “our own” data for metallic reloading. I’ve never heard of European reloading equipment. Most stuff is shipped from the US and hazmat stuff, plus brass and bullets are shipped to dealers or we use European stuff. Your lot somehow seems less keen on exporting tings like that after 911… In Norway it’s still ok to send guns by mail btw. (Ok, so it’s a bit more hassle getting one, but still…)

Looks like I’m back to square one.

RCBS is marketing a die set specifically for brass 12 ga. shotshells. Midway catalogs it.

Sweet, midway Norway is a bit over 3 times the price if I bought it at the us site. They won’t let you buy anything and ship it over here though. I’ll check it at midsouth, wideners and the others that do ship…

That seems kind of strange that they won't even let you buy a reloading die overseas. It's not like you can really do anything criminal with that.
Can your equivalent of a local gun shop get reloading dies in for you?
I have gotten some that way and it actually cost me less than ordering it through the mail would have.

I'm not really into shotguns enough to be of any more help than to suggest that.
