Just be glad your dealer didn't run another NICS check on you.....there are some that do. They don't bother reading Question 28. :D

Yeah, I got delayed when I had to fill out another 4473 to pick the can up after being approved.

I was pretty confused why it needed done again.

But I had already left (disheartedly) before looking into it and realizing it was actually unnecessary.

But by the time I had an opportunity to swing by again it had cleared at least.

Our lawyer reads Colorado law that even though question 28 says it is an NFA purchase and a NICS check isnt required, it still needs a local check done.

I dont agree with him, but I am not a lawyer.

I wonder if anyone was denied. I can't imagine what I'd do if that happened to me.

    It would be a circus.
ATF runs an FBI NICS check prior to approval and issuance of the tax stamp.
If your state or locality has their own law that has additional requirements, those must be met as well.

It would make for an epic lawsuit. ATF says the transferee passed their NICS, Colorado says they didn't. Hilarity will ensue.

We had a ton of eform approvals yesterday including a portion of a batch, one as old as mid March and as young as June. And the three batch approvals had different examiners, so I actually have zero idea...

For the most part, all the approvals yesterday were March.

Kind of like how the line at the pharmacy moves, just after I put my truck in park, I settled in for a wait and was surprised this morning!

Two days short of three months for a Form One Rimfire suppressor. Arguably the best kind.;)
    Filed Aug18.
Letter today says Nov 11 for submission.
Approved yesterday, Nov 14. Opened today.
Looks like they’re trying to make good on the three month timeline for e-forms.

Jeez, if this was rifle rated I could take it hunting!
(Yeah right, from my roof? With a drill in hand and twenty feet of steel trim?…:( Someday…)

This mornings email included two approved eForm 4's certified 3/16/2022. Eight months.

A year ago, the average processing time for paper Form 4's was.................eight months.

EForm 1 approval. Submitted 10/22 approved 11/22. I didn't see the approval email. Is there a way to get a physical copy of the tax stamp.

Only if people stop buying silencers.:D

Every time a silencer manufacturer offers a free tax stamp, a gift card or a "buy one, get one free" or other promotion I see an uptick in sales. The old Black Friday has become Black Novemberdecember.:) And heck, last year just the announcement that eForm 4's were back caused a wave of sales.

More sales=more Form 4's=increased processing times.

While I've not been shy of saying the ATF eForms system is hot garbage, the blame for slow processing is not entirely on ATF. The FBI bears equal blame in their processing of NFA background checks. Unlike Title I firearms that can be transferred after the delay period expires, NFA firearms require a proceed. Those NFA checks that didn't get a proceed will sit until someone's Congressman complains.

Silencer Shop has no way to know when a paper Form 4 is approved. That "Median wait" of nineteen months isn't what I've experienced. In fact my last ten paper Form 4's were 12-14 months.

With eForms they do. It's a feature of their Full Auto software.
