Any Rem 700 SPS Varmint .308 owners/loads

I am looking for loads for my Rem 700 SPS Varmint in .308, anybody got some good ones?

Mine is a VSS. I've had good luck with 44grs of Win 748 and 40.6grs of Ramshot's Tac. Both with the Sierra 168gr Match King.

I have an older model 700 Varmint. I use LC brass, 40gr IMR 4895, Fed match primer and Sierra 168hpbt. Consistantly shoots sub moa with the best group being 3/8 in. If I use factory brass, I use 42.7 gr IMR 4895.Everything else is the same.

A friend of mine has the SPS Tactical, and it loves the 168 gr. Nosler Custom Competition with Varget. Tiny little groups.

I like to load and shoot the Sierra 110gr Varmiters, 110gr Hornady V-Max, and 150gr Hornady SST anybody mess with these or know somebody that does?

Hawkeye75- I'm also looking for a varmit load for HP Sierra 110 grainers for 308win. I've got some Benchmark(44-48gr for 3181fps) and H4198(37-40gr for 3143fps) that i was gonna give a try, also thinking of H4895(45-49gr for 3249fps) and H322(42-45gr for 3136fps). The only thing that concerns me is the 1 in 10" twist of a 308win chambered savage and the short profile of a light weight varmit bullet for 308win.

I once tried Sierra's .277 90gr HP varmit bullet in my 270win and found my rifle didn't like them one bit, i could not get a desent group and the thick copper jackets didn't give the 'explosive' expansion way downrange where i was wanting a varmit load to strike.
I then tried some Hornady 110gr HP .277's, fixed all issues. Got great groups and good expansion. I'm in the believe that the longer profile of the Hornady hollow spire point, helped to stablize the bullet and bring the bullet closer to the lands in the barrel, not to mention a better ballistics coeffient, to help maintain those presious fps for varmiting.

Good to hear from you. So the Hornady V-Max 110gr .308's have a better ballistic coeffciant then the Sierra 110gr Varminters .308?

And they also explode better on varmints?

Sounds like I no longer need to wonder which is the better bullet for me to stock up on.

Im still developing for this rifle but Im using 42.1gr or Re-15 and 168 BTHP hornady with CCI LR primers and Remington brass. Im starting with 168gr SMK and Amax shortly.

for my rem 700 vls, 168gr smk, 41 to 42 grs of H4895, the differance in grains is based on which case I use, winchester gets a little more then remington because of case capacity. best 100 yd 5 shot group- .4 inchs, done it twice, last week got 3 .6in groups, most groups were .7 to 1.1 inches.

I just found my .308 Varmint Load for my Rem 700 SPS Varmint in .308 with a Hogue Pillar Bedded Stock and nothing else.


Sierra 110gr Varminter
46gr Varget
Rem Case
Fed 210 Match Primer
C.O.L 2.600

.5 inch three shot group 100 yards, cover with a dime, almost one hole, just what I was looking for.
