POINT BLANK Indoor Firing Range
934 W. Watauga Avenue in Johnson City is worth a visit. Opens at 10 am most days and remains open during the evening. Nice range. Offers rental guns so long as you purchase their ammo.

I went to Point Blank while visiting my parents around Christmas, its a nice place.
Go thru Elizabethton (Johnsoncity's neighbor) and take Rt 67 towards Mountain City. Rifle and pistol range will be on your right hand side. Lake Watuga will be on your left. I think all in all it's about a 30 min drive or less from J.C. And, It's free!

Is Point Blank still open? I was told they were shut down, but this was way back in '02 when I was up there for a wedding.
If you're up for a bit of a drive (approx. 60mi), there's a nice range in Asheville NC - On Target (Sweeten Creek Rd x Busby View Rd, near I40). Hendersonville NC also has Rex's which is newer and has a great selection of stuff, including guns to rent.

Point Blank is open -- they're about three blocks from my Dad's house, so I seem 'em oftener than I should.
They've got a couple of those new KT SU-16s if you ain't seen one yet.
Other shops in the area --
Crowder's up the Jonesboro highway has a heck of alot of stock, but overworked and a little cranky help I think. A little farther down the Jonesboro highway is..what's their name? Jonesboro field and gun? Something like that? Last time I was there they had a shoestring business front over a pizza joint, very little stock, but good prices and VERY earnest, helpful staff. Good people. Also.. Weisners? I think is the name, also on the Jonesboro highway. Next to no storefront, but LOTS of stock, largely ammo, reloading materials, and I think parts. They're primarily a catalog place, but will happily go root around in back and hand you anything you like from stock. Again, VERY good people.
Mahoney's.... I'd not bother, but that's just my reaction to hearsay as much as anything else (rumor has it they've made life very difficult for other gun places in the city limits via friends on the City Council
