I have been a member of 2 different Sporting Clays forums for quite some time.

Now it seems that both have dissappered. shotgunsports and shotgunworld.

Since THR always seems to be strong and steady, could we get a "Sporting Clays" catagory started ?

For keeping up with scores, upcomming shoots and the likes ?

How many members that post on THR also posted on the other 2 sites I mentioned ?

How many THR members would like to see a "Sporting Clays" Forum on here ???

I've thought Shotgunsports.com and Pistolworld.com have been dead for some time now.
Shotgunworld.com may be having difficulties. I'll hope for the best.

I rarely shoot Sporting Clays. I shoot some 5 Stand and plenty of skeet.

THR users seem to be more inclined toward self-defense shotgunning with a good number of hunters thrown in. Recently, a sporting shotgun thread on THR indicated clay shooting is enjoyed by only a few users. Maybe we don't type well enough to respond often.

Probably not enough folks for a separate Forum.

BTW, the moderator shoots clays.

ShotgunSports went down about a week or so ago.

I really liked it since everyone didn't feel like they were walking on egg shells.

You could be yourself and not get into trouble if you spoke your mind. No pollically correct, touchy feely types on there.

I REALLY hope it comes back.

Shotgun world was OK, but really boring. Again, too pollically correct.

I have only shot trap with my 870 so far. I enjoy it so who cares what everyone else on the forum thinks.

I shoot sporting about once a month. I wish I could get to Reno more often...fantastic course up there at Sage Hill.

Is Bird's Landing still in operation?? And Comanche in Ione? Those were nice as well.

There is a smaller place in Carson City, a semi-private one in Minden that used to hold public shoots on certain days like Mother's Day and Father's day, and Walker River out near Yerington. Check those out if you get the time.

Our local Quail Unlimited chapter puts on a sporting clays shoot once a month and I haven't missed one in years. I'm also an NSCA member and shoot registered targets whenever I can but, while there are some nice courses in northern New Mexico, the closest one is a four hour drive.

PA4476,

Count me in. I would like to see a Sporting Clays board on this forum. Heck, I would be happy if they just broke the Shotgun section down into Tactical Shotguns and Sporting Shotguns. The Sporting section would cover not only sporting clays, but also all other clay target games as well as hunting shotguns.

In fact, I suggested this very thing on this board about 3 or 4 weeks ago and my suggestion got shot down. For some strange reason, some people feel that separating the shotgun board into two different boards is offensive to them. I have no idea why they think so, but apparently it is.

Anyway, good luck with your suggestion, but I wouldn't hold my breath because it seems that many members here would rather that we go somewhere else to discuss sporting shotguns. Go figure.

I agree Pete,

I get the feeling if you don't have a black short bbl shotgun that will hold 9 rounds in the mag and 30 in side saddles and sling mounted shell holders ,

well ... you just aren't a shotgunner.

And since I don't have lights and lasers and 6 position stock with 6 way adjustable combat sling attached and hauling 25 OO buck with 25 slugs as backup,

I guess I will abandon this idea for this site.

Just as well ... shotgunworld is back up and running. If you haven't seen it, go here and join in with other clays shooters. >>>>> http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewforum.php?f=95

no sporting clays close to me, but I do try to shoot skeet weekly. no tactical guns here just the stackbarrel.

You earn extra points if you can shoot 20 out of 25 with them.

My shotgun isn't quite tactical, and not quite sporting. I want to shoot clays, just need to get to the range.

I'm not serious about it; been busy.

That's next on my list, after we're moved into the new house: go to the shotgun range early and often.:)

I don't "get" the tacticool thing with shotguns. I guess people like to have guns just to look at, because I can't imagine it'd be fun to shoot the guns too often. But I have to admit that I don't quite "get" why 3-gun isn't 2-gun, either.:)

I don't know if I would be considered serious or not, I shoot as often as money allows. I shot a 72 last weekend (first time out this year) and hope to improve through the year. My preferance in GA. is Big Red Oak Plantation but I also shoot at Cherokee Rose Shooting Resort.

You really haven't lived until you've shot a round of skeet with a 14" pump gun. Definitely gets everyone's attention. ;)

I don't consider my sporting clays "serious" as I'm not shooting registered competition. I'm shooting between 6-7 thousand targets per year (not with the 14" gun but with a 32" o/u.) :)

One of the places I shoot at sees George Digweed shoot there - and score 98 / 99 ex 100.

Some good targets, not too hard but very varied. Charlotte Kerwood also shot there last week, shes a British Olympic shooter. I love the fact that clays means people can shoot together.

I'm sure as hell if I was a keen football player I wouldnt get to play on the same pitch as David Beckham :)

I shot at Cherokee Rose about 3 years ago during the Georgia State (NSCA) Championship. It's a nice course. Has varied terrain and lots of good locations for some imaginative targets. It's also a good place for out of town visitors to stay and shoot since there are lots of motels and restaurants within 10-15 minutes driving time of the range.

Forrest City Gun Club in Savannah, GA is also a good place to shoot although the terrain is not as varied there as at CR, but the on-site facilities are nicer, IMO. I went to the State Championship there in about 2004.

I shoot Cherokee Rose and Big Red Oak quite often.

I shot a registered shoot at CR this past Saturday.

The Meadows is a great place to shoot also, just down I-75 at the Smarr-Rumble Rd exit. ( just North of Macon)

We are shooting there this Saturday with SSC.

And on April 4th and 5th, there is a Registered shoot at CR (Sat) and BRO (Sun)

PA-Couldn't agree with you more! This is the best gun forum I've ever seen!I think it would be improved if the shotgun section were divided .Both genres have their importance and place in the world, but I can't help thinking the expanded format would draw more contributors. Many of us in these times can't afford 2 guns for HD and Sporting use.A "tacticool" sg on a clays field looks odd and out of place. My BPS fits in my closet and the sound of a round being ratcheted into the chamber is cool enough to scare an intruder.I shoot skeet,trap,5-stand,and sp clays regularly-I have yet to defend my home, but stand ready to.Perhaps someone could come up with a sg game for HD shotguns?
