Picked this up on the weekend (it's also available for 20 gauges) in 2 3/4 and 3 inches variants. Only had a chance to shoot it at an indoor range, but just looking at the round it looks like it will be devastating coming out of a rifled barrel. I mean with a barrel that has rifiling it pretty much turns into a rifle round (when shooting from a scope) and a 300gr bullet, it's almost no different than being able to use a rifle. If you check the velocity states and energy stats it covers a lot of ground and covers it quite fast. Haven't seen it in to many stores yet. It's apparently new for this year (at least in Federals Catalog I got for 2012 earlier this year). Paid about 13.99 for a box of 5, but it looks like I'll be buying some more soon.

Seems like it would also work well on PA's bear and elk.

Anyone else have a chance to try it or have any thoughts on it?

If it works as good as the barnes/federal slug, it will be devastating on deer or anything else you shoot. Iv'e killed quit a few with the latter and they are nasty!!!

i had the opportunity to test these slugs last year prior to release. They shoot fantastic at long ranges and are less punishing on my shoulder. Shot two deer with them last year and both of them went less that 20 yards. The buck i shot was at 137. here is a picture from 200. 1111111631a.jpg

That's great to know! It looks like I might serve well to get a few more when I get a chance to sight in my scope...once Cabelas ships it!

two words. optics planet
I had a coupon from my Cabelas card and it was on sale so it came down from $100 to $35, otherwise if I had the extra side cash I would have gone with Leupold...even if it would be worth only slightly less than the gun itself!
