naturally, they had to screw it up... ah, lawyers. In the interest of safety, Winchester has fitted a tang safety to the Model 95 and modified the lockwork to feature a rebounding hammer.
I have a Browning 1895 in .30-06. Nice rifle. Pain in the neck to load the mag, though. Almost impossible not to get hurt in the process.1KPerDay said:I absolutely lust after this rifle. .30-06, please. Yummy.

Why? I assume you have to load the mag in place, right? How is it different from more modern rifle mag designs? Sharp edges? The Real Hawkeye said:I have a Browning 1895 in .30-06. Nice rifle. Pain in the neck to load the mag, though. Almost impossible not to get hurt in the process.
Well, you load it from the top by positioning the cartridge over the follower and pushing down, but it's not like you just drop it in prep for pushing it down, because you have to position it correctly first. Then in pushing it down you almost invariably get your thumb nail caught on the lip of the magazine. This will start to hurt after about five or six times. It's not a very ergonomic loading mechanism. Other than that it is very accurate and smooth functioning. I could be there is a method that is less problematic for loading that I just don't know about. Anybody?1KPerDay said:Why? I assume you have to load the mag in place, right? I'm not at all familiar with the process and I've never actually seen or handled one of these rifles... kindly enlighten those of us who aren't as fortunate.
That's pretty creepy.smokemaker said:Swampwolf,
I'm an only child, and I posess infinite patience. Besides, the old man lets me take just about anything I want from the gunsafe. In fact, he calls me and asks if I want to shoot work-up loads in stuff, to keep his arthritis from acting up. He won't let me take the high grade 1895, or the high grade 1886 out, though. someday
