Anybody else tuning up hunting rifles today?

GA modern firearms deer season starts October 19th. We get a week of muzzleloader before that. Still pretty hot and humid here. Nope, not much tuning to be done.

That 338 Fed is interesting to me. I’m probably going to start looking seriously at something larger in diameter than .30 cal next year. I’m curious to see how you like it.

Played with the 338 today and was all over the place with it. I don't know if it was the scope, (doubtful because it is a VX-2), or the old Weaver rings that I used. It could be the bedding on the flimsy stock, but the groups weren't consistent in one area and I really don't think that bedding would effect it that much. I swapped rings and scope when I got home and will try again.

I chrono'd the loads and they were close to what the book stated. What surprised me was the factory Federal Fusions. It stated 2700 fps for the 200 gr and I was clocking an average of 2750 fps out of my 22" tube. Don't know if I can get close to that.
