So I was at the range/gunstore today and was glancing at the merchandise while waiting for a lane to open and I saw this.http://www.fnhusa.com/contents/sg_police.htm

I wasnt really looking for a new gun (isnt this how it always goes?) but this one jumped out at me. I picked it up and was hooked, it felt so right in my hands, and handled great. I flipped the tag over, and the price looked good $475.00. I almost had them start the paper work but at the last minute decided to think it over for a while. To me it looks to be based on the 870 design with the twin bars. Do any of you have this gun? Look like a good buy to you guys.

The SEARCH function is your friend-http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=170316 and mention on several other threads.

Nope, NOT 870- Winchester 1300, which has some major design differences like a rotating bolt and the 'speed pump' feature. The FN is a re-named Win 1300 plain and simple.

IMHO it's a fair package for the price, given all the standard features it offers, it was a screamin' deal when it was $200 cheaper though. If I'd known they were going up that much I'd have bought half a dozen instead of just one. If it fits you well and feels good to you, that means a lot...

Thanks for the link it is just what I was looking for. If it were still $250 it would have come home with me already, but after reading that I feel more confident in making that purchase.

A few weeks ago Gander Mountain had Winchester 1300 Defenders for $339. By the looks of it, it's exactly the same gun. Probably in-store stock only, because I think the 1300's are history with the closing of the New Haven plant.

Yup, same as my Win 1300. I would like to add some rifle or ghost ring sights. Mine has the bead type front. Anybody know some decent options on sights for the Win 1300?

Or buy a M590 that already has a factory ghost ring and is combat proven
for the same price. Is this FN US made?

My Winchester Camp Defender is pretty much the same thing but with a 22" barrel and a wood stock. Sights are as shown in the photo above. I got it a Gander Mountain earlier this year on sale for $267. Only reason I got it, but it is a real nice shooter and occasionally goes to the sporting clays range. Shoots 'em pretty good to. I like having changeable chokes on it too.

Lee Lapin wrote a good review of this gun.

And then I bought one. I love it. My only complaint was it was balanced a little barrel-heavy, and five rolls of pennies in the buttstock fixed that. Best use of $2.50 I ever saw.
Slickest pump action I've ever felt, right out of the box. They are about $400 on the shelf locally.

I got my FN from CDNN for $269 plus $9.95 shipping and $15 to my local FFL. Bought it for my military/tactical/LE SG collection, but found out it is a lot of fun to shoot. Much better QC than the Winchester badge, maybe FN checked them out before putting them out. It is, nevertheless simply a rebadged Winchester(Winchester is now owned by F N). So is the FN semi auto, a rebadged Winchester X2, not bad either.
However, IMHO, Remington 870 still rules the pump gun roost, and the 1100 is the semi-auto king( I am speaking of current production).
