I have been thinking about getting another 300 blackout barrel to use with my 9mm suppressor that I'm waiting on paperwork for. I was thinking today though why not get a 350 legend instead. I see that winchester has a dirt cheap subsonic factory load and I think it would be fun to try handloading the 280 grain Maker Rex bullet and take a deer with it. Not sure if I want to get a contender barrel or build an AR pistol upper. The Maker Rex bullet says it needs a 1:10 twist which looks to be a bit hard to find. So anybody play around with one yet with heavy bullets? I already have a 357 max, a 358 yeti, and a 35 remington, so I have lots of bullets around to play with.

I would go with a Contender or a bolt gun. No worries about trying to get it to run and you can load mild to wild (maybe not with the can on for wild). Also, much quieter compared to an AR platform.

Sorry, haven't gotten into the "legend" yet. Given what you have on hand is there any gain there aside from scratching an itch (which is cool and I am NOT one to talk you out of that)?

The main reason I want it over say a 300 blackout is for the extra bullet diameter and weight, and also bullet selection. I actually have a 300 blackout AR barrel already, and a 357 maximum contender pistol as well. It would be nice to be able to use hornady 180 grain XTP’s because they are cheap and I have several hundred of them, and they will expand at subsonic velocities. I also want to try that 280 maker bullet on a deer.

I chatted with match grade machine today about doing a fast twist 350 barrel and they said they anticipated that someone was going to ask for that so they already got some 1:10 twist blanks.
