Anybodys SHTF Battery not include Military Rounds?

Yep.

If you can scavange ammo off of your imaginary foes, you can pick up their rifles, too.

Unless, of course, your enemies carry ammo but no weapons. If so, your life is pretty easy, and you probably need a more challenging TEOTWAWKI.

Another way to look at is this: I am trying to collect the whole set. If THE END comes and we're all shooting commie zombie ninja bears all day every day, I hope to have a weapon that will fire whatever type of ammo I happen across in my post-apocalyptic scavenging.

9.82 Elephantiasis Ultra Magnum? Yep. I have an derringer that shoots that. Quick, grab those boxes and get to the APC. Here come the commie zombie ninja bears!

In all seriousness? I just enjoy shooting different calibers. Diversification is a good thing, but its application in a disaster scenario is purely secondary to my recreational shooting.

Another +1 for 22lr
And then it would be 22 mag, 5.56/.223, 30-30, 9mm, and to really pput an odd one it would be a 44 lead ball to go with my flint lock rifle for hunting. (Not to fend off invaders or anything of the sorts) I can make black powder and find flints easily and I also have a bullet mold, so any lead I find that I can't use in one of my guns will be melted down and coverted to a 44 lead ball.

Anyways those are my calibers for when the SHTF situations.

Shtf??? Hmmmmm

well, of course .22lr.

honestly if the S his the proverbial F, i think the caliber you have is thus your caliber of choice.

I've got a couple .22s, and of course tons of .22 ammo, 12ga pump and a few bricks, then its 7.62.... 1) x45r several hundred rounds of surpluss stuff. good at long ranges (out to 1000 yds i'm told, but i can't shoot that far) out of the 91/30, keep stripper clips filled. and2) x39 for the sks, again strippers filled, but this one's better for quicker fire and closer ranges and carrying around.

I would like to add .223 and 9mm to the aresenal for the sake of picking up ammo from zombies of the NATO persuasion.

When/if (God forbid) the SHTF, I can visualize the majority of the population freaking out. The vast majority are totally unprepared, can't say I am either.

I can imagine things getting pretty ugly in a hurry.

Heck Yeah

Savage Arms bolt action .243

One of the best rifles I ever owned. I would love to see .243 or .270 be offered in an AR or AK style semi-auto platform. Anyone know of any?? That new .458 SOCOM looks really great.

Hmm. Let's see - I think all my firearms are current or ex-military chamberings:

12ga.
8x57mm Mauser
7x57mm Mauser
.308 Winchester
.30-06
7.62x54R
7.62x39
9mm Parabellum

.22LR - hey, there's one! Oh yeah, I forgot about training rifles...never mind...

That being said, I have the ability to reload .308, .30-06, 7.62x39, and 9mm. However...

My grandfather (who will be 89 on Friday) has decided to cut back on his reloading, and gave me most of his existing setup last week (including a Dillon 550B). Apparently, in theory, I can now also reload for several calibers I have nothing to fire out of, because he had dies for:

.25 ACP (yeah, I can't figure that one out, either)
.32 H&R Magnum
.380
.38 Special
.40 S&W
.41 Magnum
.45 ACP
.223 Remington
.243 Winchester
.30-30
7x57mm Mauser
7mm Remington Magnum
.444 Marlin

I also have about a metric buttload of brass (it was already an Imperial crapload before I got his brass stash), in these and many more calibers.

Guess if the S really did HTF I could load and trade these for other things.

Hmmmm

I suppose my *extended* SHTF battery includes a levergun in .45 colt, and a long-range "interdiction rifle" ( :) ) in .243 Win.

Are we counting 12 ga as military? If not, there's that too.

Yep, .22 mag and .357 mag. Also have 6.5x55, however that was a miliary round at one time.
