Anyone else enjoy heavy recoil sometimes?

Not anymore.

I can still feel those 12 Ga slugs I fired out of my H&R single shot Topper shotgun. I fired the thing off a bench, to see where it grouped. That really hurt. :(

Just bought a Ruger 77 in 7 mag (see it in another thread). Test fired it 5 times wearing a T-Shirt (No lead sled) It has my attention:what:.

There was a time in my youth when I enjoyed heavy recoil guns, however now that I'm older I just don't feel the same way about them anymore. I'd rather shoot guns that I can shoot all day long without having to stop because it gets painful.

I'm not a fan of heavy recoil at all when it comes to handguns. For compact autos I don't like shooting anything more than 9mm and for fullsize autos nothing more than .45ACP. For revolvers with anything less than a 4" barrel nothing more than .38 Special, for any revolver with a longer barrel .357 Mag is my max.

As for rifles if the gun is too painful on the shoulder then I don't enjoy shooting it. It really isn't a matter of caliber because many rifles chambered in the same caliber can have different felt recoil, of course this sometimes applies to handguns as well.

Yeah, my 22 rifle - Rem 597 is dead on accurate, but boring. My Super Commanche 45/410 is super inaccurate, almost painful to shoot more than a box, but hella fun. And my 45-70, not quite accurate, no recoil pad, it's bruised my shoulder before, knocked my little bro on his ass, and is also hella fun.

My buddy has a BA50, the thing will clean the snot out of your nose. If you notice in the video it will knock a glock off the bench.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTfCDuPE7GA

Yes, I do but.....a lot depends on the nature of the recoil. Specifically, it depends on how fast the recoil pulse is. I have a T/C Encore with a barrel from SSK that is in an odd chambering. By the book, the recoil is similar to a 12 ga. shotgun. The pulse, though, is so fast that the gun is more unpleasant to shoot than either my .375 H&H or my .416 Rigby.

When i feel like being kicked around i drag out my 6.5 pound .375 Alaskan and some 300 grain handloads. That does not happen very often.

When I was younger I loved the S&W Model 29 with the heaviest, loudest loads I could find. Now I pretty much stick to 22 pistols or 9mm at the most.

We shouldn't confuse recoil (the push of the rifle stock against shoulder and cheek) and blast/shock wave coming out of the muzzle brake.

The recoil of the Barret is fine, IMPO, thanks mostly to that brake. The shock wave is unpleasant for the shooter (even with plugs/phones, you feel it smack your chest. Folks directly in back of the shooter do better, those in back and to the side do worse...and anything near the muzzle brake is likely to be damaged. I've seen a plastic ammo container cracked by the blast.

Shot a 500 S&W today! Put some 500gr FP XTP's through it and man oh man does that thing kick! It felt like I was punched in the palm of my hand!

I shoot my Mossberg 500A 12 gauge pump every now and again, used to shoot it a lot more, but has since become my home defense gun.
Everyone would look at me like I was nuts for shooting a mix of bird shot and 00 buck for fun.
I liked it, but then again, I'm not one to cry about recoil.

Yes, Mossberg 500 with 3" Magnums and my 500 Magnum 4" barrel Revolver.

Shooting the 500 Mag with hot loads is just like having a car accident! :)
