There are many out there that don't like cleaning their guns. Me, I'm religious. Shoot....then clean. I seriously like cleaning my guns. The smell is great, plus I just like breaking them down. Anyone else out there like me? Hoppe's #9 smells good to me.

;)

I've been using Hoppe's since 1960 to clean my guns. I love the smell of Hoppe's. It's probably part of my blood by this time!!!:D It's always done a good job and still does. I do use other cleaners also but Hoppe's is still my favorite!!

One summer I had a problem with gnats around the kitchen trash can. After a range session, I dumped my cleaning patches with Hoppes #9 in the kitchen can, and the gnats left. The gnats hated it! What's not to love about that?

Oooh - gonna try that right now!

I love the smell of that stuff.

You do realize that Hoppes sells a cologne. Same smell...no oily residue! It's a hit with the ladies. :uhoh:

Not with mine! I don't mind the smell. Niether like it or hate it I guess. However, my wife loaths it. She can tell that I was cleaning guns in the house even hours later. She uses candles to clear the air.

I have been advising my unmarried daughter to put a dab of Hoppe's behind each ear when she goes out hoping it would help her attract the right kind of man. Hoppe's 20 years ago had a slightly better smell than the current stuff. Did you know you can buy Hoppe's #9 car fresheners?

I don't mind it so much but the wife definitely doesn't care for it (more of a Chanel No.5 girl herself).

It's not the smell, it's the memories it invokes. Range time with good friends, campfires, and whiskey.

This is like the 6th or 7th thread on this topic I've seen in the last few years. Yes, I like the smell. My mind associates it with pleasant memories of fun times.

Definitely not the same smell as the old stuff. I remember old basement gun shops in the 60's and 70's that smelled of it. I loved to open one of the small bottles we had around the house and take a sniff. The air fresheners don't carry much scent IMO.

I definitely like it. It does bring back good memories from days long past, but it also makes the day into one of those good memories. I don't like the chemical smell of some other solvents, Hoppes is nice.

I really kind of don't.

It is available almost everywhere and does do a great job as a solvent so I use it a bunch, but the lingering sickly-sweet banana type smell gets old after it hangs around your house all day.

I think it may be tea tree oil. I like the smell of Hoppe's but find it's persistence a bit annoying smell-wise. I like the smell of lasagna as well but I don't want the whole house smelling like it hours after a meal. That's my only complaint about.

I like the smell of Hoppe's #9. I dislike the fact that I have to face the chore of cleaning guns with the stuff. I love shooting guns. Cleaning up afrewards is another matter.
