Anyone else luck out with a budget pistol?

A new Diamondback DB9 from Academy for less than $200. Good DA trigger and feeds good. Weighs next to nothing and it's twice as good as my KelTec PF9.

"Hard to beat the surplus Beretta 81s that were going for less than $200 in terms of quality and low price."

Mine is extremely good.

The Star Super B's that were everywhere a few years ago for a similar price were another awesome surplus deal.

I purchased a Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 from Whittaker Guns for 184.99 + 12.99 S&H in 2016. I don't fire a lot of rounds through it, a few mags per range trip, maybe 250 rounds in an entire year. It doesn't have a high round count that has proven out long term reliability but I haven't had a problem with it so far. I thought the Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 was a good deal at $185.00 but I don't think the Taurus G3c is a good deal at $325+

I purchased a SAR B6P for a total of $241.43 from Sportsman Guide in 2015.

Here is my review of it:

https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/review-of-the-sar-b6p.786697/

Mine sits in my car all of the time. Five summers of sitting in a hot car on a hot parking lot and five winters sitting in the cold and I've never had a spot of rust anywhere on it. When I take it to the the range, it runs like a champ. I've never had a malfunction with it.

Unfortunately they're now going for $320.00 to $400.00 :(

G2 .. just a great pistol ..$190.00 after rebate

S&W Shield .. hard to believe this as a budget pistol
But $240 after rebate ... great pistol . Retired my 43

All the above are quality pistols ...work well ..

I'm pretty sure all of my handguns would be classified as "budget" variants.
Besides the hi-power that actually belongs to my dad.....
Haven't had a bad one yet!

Not really a true budget gun but I got a Sig 225/P6 real cheap years back and it was just a great gun. Only gun I'm a little sad I sold.

Other than that I've won a couple nice guns in $10 raffles but I don't think that counts.

My wife won a Walther PPX at a Friends of NRA banquet a while back. It has the best trigger of any pistol I’ve ever used.

Almost everything I've ever bought has been a "budget" gun - either due to it being used, surplus or just in not great shape. I don't mind inexpensive at all. Last cheapie I got was the Glock 48 for 358 (and some shipping). Good little gun.

I bought a Taurus G3c last year as I'd heard they were reliable and fit in the hand better than a 365 XL for me. So far so good, over 1k rounds w/o a single hiccup. I picked up a G3 TORO recently, $299 for a reliable optic ready pistol. I like my M18 and others, but when a $300 pistol comes cut for optics and includes the plates for all of the major red dots...kinda hard not to like.

I have several budget guns. They all seem to work very well.

SAR K2 P 9mm.
SAR CM9 G2 (My pick, GREAT gun, cheap!)
Taurus PT92AF
Taurus PT111 G2 (2)
Canik TP9v2
Lots of surplus CZ clones.

I go cheap, or I go expensive, little in between.

Usually what separates budget from more expensive ...is markup ... expense of marketing..
The markup of Glocks and Sigs are mind boggling
which equals wide profit margins...
Is my 19 better than my SD9VE ??? To me no .
How do you improve on 100% functional on any ammo I have tried ?
I replaced my 43 , with a Gen 1 Shield ..
Does S&W build a 20oz 44spl , no , but Charter does ...
My gosh ..Taurus has produced the PT-111 , G2 ‘s for years ,, I found them crazy reliable .. and tens thousands others have also... actually my G2 is my most carried semiautomatic pistol... and as soon as this crazy buying frenzy is over a G2 in 40 S&W is on my short list ... Budget doesn’t always equal low quality..

I have come across a couple of bargains.

My first introduction to really cheap, but useful pistols was the BERETTA model 82 Cheetah pistol in .32ACP. These were police (I think Israeli) trade-ins and I bought the first one for $169.00. They are as reliable as you would expect a BERETTA to be, very easy to control as they are a large gun for the .32ACP and accurate. They convinced me that a .32ACP is an adequate defensive pistol, if something bigger is not available. Just remember to aim carefully.

The second was the STOEGER Cougar 8000/8040 series. These are clones of the BERETTA 8000 series of pistols, discontinued by BERETTA, in Italy and then put into production by STOEGER (a division of BERETTA), in Turkey.
I have found them to be just as reliable as my BERETTA 8000D pistol and in the case of the .40 caliber 8040 pistols, they both cost under $300.00. They handle even the heaviest loads, though the shorter 3.6 inch barrel makes a bright flash with the 135 and 155 grain, high velocity loads. Handling is good, recoil controllable and accuracy more than adequate.

My third bargain was when I was up in CANADA. I bought a pair of Belgium made BROWNING Nomad pistols for @ $300.00 They are beautifully made and shoot well.

My other big bargain was with revolvers. I bought a S&W model 15 with a 4 inch barrel and HOGUE grips for .$279.00 It looked like hell as the Florida prison guards who used it, scratched their names or I.D. numbers on the sideplate. On the other hand, the trigger was smooth, so I took a chance. I shot it at the range and raced back to a 6 inch for the same price. It really shot well and I have put over a 1000 rounds through each. I have no idea how many went before, but loaded with FEDERAL HST +P 130 grain jhp or DOUBLE TAP +P 125 grain jhp, I have no doubt of its defensive use.

Yes, three of them...
In 2004, a sub-$500 1983 West German Chantilly-era HK P7M8 whose innards HK updated/replaced for an additional $125.

A new & on-sale Taurus black nitride-finished Model 85 that was priced below $200.

A new, on-sale RM-380 which after Remington’s $100 rebate, set me back about $120 + tax.

I picked up my fourth Taurus Model 85 at my LGS yesterday.

Of my previous ones, one was stolen, one was given to a family member, and one was traded due to its horrendous trigger. They all went bang every time.

I won the newest for a $251 bid the other day. It's kind of ugly, but not as bad as the pictures seemed to show. Someone just let it get very dirty, and it was starting to rust. I cleaned it up and it seems to work fine. I'll shoot it in a week or two and find out for sure.

I purchased a Remington RM380 for $99.00 after rebate, but I don't consider it a "budget" pistol.

The Rohrbaugh R9 was designed by Karl and Eric Rorhbaugh. The R380 was a re-chambered R9. The R380 and R9 were anything but cheap budget-friendly pistols.

I was only able to get an RM380 for $99.00 because Remington was in such dire financial straights that they were running sales to try to move their guns.

It is a fantastic pistol and I've never had a problem with it. And no I've never had the barrel pin fall out.

There isn't a $100.00 gun that is better than the RM380.

@C0untZer0 ... re the RM-380, I couldn’t agree with you more. When I see the word, budget, I automatically & perhaps erroneously think wallet & greenbacks ... not quality, etc...

An excellent pistol before being refitted with various Galloway Precision & M*Carbo components, now it’s an even better pistol ... & one that flies beyond most folks’ level of awareness.
