Take one AR15 type rifle, in this case a Cavalry Arms Lightweight Carbine. One Colt .22 conversion kit and several boxes of Colibri "No Gunpowder" ammo and voila.

Instant backyard range. Quieter than my pellet gun. You only hear the hammer drop and the round hitting the target. I built a little mini gong and put it on the other side of my yard about 25m away.

Nice to be able to get a moment of zen without driving a hour and paying range fees. :)

'bout the only kind of shooting I do!

Let's hear it for N.H. and twenty+ acres.

Not to mention the neighbors....

Last testing period, we did around 3K of full auto M4 stuff, and while I did notify the local cops that I'd be doing so, I forgot about one of my neighbors, three doors, or about a quarter mile away.

Half way through the mess, up he walks to find out what newbie I've got that sounded so interesting.

I'll skip the gong, though, much prefering a full load of 748 behind a 165 in 7.62x51.

Takes me back to my days of sniping little green army men with a pellet rifle.

Just set up a pellet range in the basement, and now AUG has to make me jealous...
Living in the middle of suburbia, I've never tried that. Don't want to have Cpl Friendly hear about some teenager with a machinegun (do you honestly think my neighbors would see the diff between a AR converted to .22 and an M16??), drive over here and become Cpl What-the-hell-are-you-doing-you're-under-arrest lol.

Jmurman, if you like CB Caps, you'll love Colibris.

Absolutely ZERO discharge sound.

where do you get them? How much? Are they the same size as a CB cap or are they like a .22LR?

Sure. I have a number or air guns. I have also tried the CB caps. I also have worked up "silent" loads for most of my centerfire rifles using charges of powder just heavy enough so that you don't stick the bullet in the barrel. The real fun however is going to come when I finally get my suppressed .22s. I have a suppressed Ruger 10/22 and a suppressed Ruger Mk. II ordered and paid for.

You see, my neighbor has this garden, and a groundhog problem. Being the good sport that I am, I offered to help. Over the years I battled with them in the backyard. My best was the 30 yard shot with my Ruger P90 to dispatch one of the satanic little buggers.

Being the computer geek type, I worked from home all summer and had my computer next to a window overlooking the backyard. Well wouldn't ya know, groundhogs decide to move back in on my turf. So, out went my screen window and in its place sat my 10/22 or a .223 varmit rig. *sigh* poor guys didn't know what hit em.

Unfortunately, I have to severely limit my backyard range activities lest I scare the sheeple.

Ground squirrels

I live just outside of town, on a ridge overlooking the second fairway of a golf course. Ground squirrels abound and threaten to overrun my wife's flower garden.

My Winchester Model 62A slide action .22 has done wonders to keep the GS population under control. I must, however, be very alert to check for golfers and let them play through before continuing the assassination routine.

I DO NOT hunt when golfers are present. Most of them are in enough agony attempting to reach the green without having to have me molest them.

Colibri's are great for quiet fun. Where I'm at I could probably (and have :D ) gotten away with a .22 lr for a while but with those I can shoot off a box and my neighbor who was washing his truck didn't even notice. They don't cycle the action so a bolt action rifle or a revolver is the best to use them in.

Do some plinkin' out the glass slider with the old single six 6.5".
Colibris pack a good punch for 20 grains @ 350 fps.

Count me in. I've been known to shoot some targets with my .22 and some Super Colibris. Those suckers penetrated a 3/8" piece of plywood (albeit somewhat old). And they're super quiet.

I actually took out a possum with some Super Colibris. The varmint had been eating my outdoor cat's food for about two weeks. I treed it one night, had my wife hold the flashlight, and administered a Super Colibri to the head at fairly close range (less than 7 yards). Dead possum.

On 20+ acres of Suburban hills in Central Ca. I used to shoot the discHarrow Gongs on the back hillside 200yds away. Those days are gone pretty much although a few rounds are OK. I can shoot varmints like pigs and cats(wild) and coyotes if I want. But no continued blastin as I got nieghbors within 1/4 mile (300yds) . Soooo I now like Remington "low noise .22 LR subsonic H.P. s as they function S.A. pistols and rifles and are very little louder than CB's. Colibri's are like old RWS BB caps and are like air guns. Hell I have air guns that are ALOT more powerful than 20 grains at 350fps. What I really like (like 444 alluded too) is my Stevens favorite rechambered to .32S&W long with 90grain SWC at 700fps or less they sound like CB's and pack a wallop!I also have a .303 Martini SS with chamber insert to take .32acp it is like the sub sonic .22's in a rifle-real quiet and 73 grains at 900fps is nothing to be sneezed at. When I shoot that one shot at occasional ground squirrel at 150 yds or so (outside the 75 yd range of .32 favorite) I use a .17 K hornet in a Martini HB with a 15 power Lyman Super targetspot, it isn't much loader than a "stinger" .22lr out of a pistol.
