Anyone fall "out of love" with 1911's?

I love my 1911's but most of the time I reach for one of my BHPs ...the best looking auto ever made IMHO ....take care

I originally only had one 1911. I have owned a S&W 4506-1, two different versions of the sig p220, an FN-45, a Glock 45, and an HK45. I now have three 1911s. The original Colt I bought years back, a DW Valor worked on by Dave Severns with Hard Hat, and a new Stainless Valor. All of the other 45s are now gone. None of them shot as accurately and easily as the 1911s do. I have picked up a S&W 625JM .45 acp revolver and I do like it very much. However, for me the 1911 still reigns supreme in the 45 ACP category. I prefer revolvers in higher calibers, and polymers in lower calibers, but for the .45 I have tried just about everything and keep coming back to the 1911.

When you move up to the .45, spring and parts wear are not any worse in the 1911 than they are in any other gun. I keep mine cleaned after shooting but thats about all. In all of the thousands upon thousands of rounds I have fired the only issue i had was with an extractor on a Les Baer. It actually was the only finnicky 1911 I have ever dealt with, and ironically it was the most expensive. Alot of guys at the range have purchased Sig's new 1911s in the last couple of years. They shoot the heck out of them and I have yet to hear any problems.

Every pistol collection should have at least one 1911, one S&W revolver, and one Beretta 92.

Yep....I like to look at them and don't mind shooting them. However, I hate loading mags and chasing brass. My infatuation was short lived. I went back to revolvers.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one out there that feels this way. As much as I'm in love with my P226, I may try to go and trade into a P220 tomorrow. I really really wish I could get my hands on a P227. I've already told my fiancé that as soon as one is available locally, it's mine. If the P220 doesn't suit me, ill look at polymer offerings from Smith, Springfield, Glock, FN, H&K.

What should I expect a Kimber CDP Compact in excellent shape to bring? It's probably 9-10 years old. I still have the box as well.

I still love my 1911s. I've had many over the years, but the three permanent members of my collection (all Colts) are a mint Gold Cup Match (Series 70), a modified Series 80 built by Greg Derr, and a Delta Elite with Greg Derr upgrades.

However, as much as I love them, I have come to accept their faults and limitations. They are all designated "hobby" firearms, locked up and unloaded, and are not considered for defense purposes. They 1911 in my nightstand has been replaced by a RMR equipped Springfield XDm. I used to carry a Colt Defender, but I sold it and carry a Springfield XDs instead. My wife carries an M&P. They're just more practical, effective and efficient firearms for defensive purposes.

However, you'll often see me at the line of the local bowling pin match with my Delta Elite :D

My favorite gun is typically the one I'm holding... variety is the spice of life, and being proficient with many is important.

Keep the 1911 unless you really get an offer you cannot refuse.

my habit of high gripping a gun with thumbs forward sometimes does not activate the grip safety. must have one with a bigger than average palm hump or whatever its called.

Sold my 1911 to buy a Glock 34.

No regrets. If I want to shoot .45, I pick up my M&P45. The 1911 shot fine and accurately, just didn't care for it much.

I do love the design and elegance of the 1911 but with that being said the execution is spotty no matter what brand you get. I feel like the best you can hope is that when you guy a 1911 it might be as accurate and reliable as a Glock/Sig/M&P/Ruger etc........but if that is the case, won't don't I just buy one of them instead? I traded off my last 1911 about a year ago, I don't see having one again any time in the near future.

I was a Tanker in the Army and the 1911 was my issued weapon, I qualified with it for years. I don't dislike the 1911, but I've had no real desire to own one (probably due to recoil). If I ever buy one it would be out of nostalgia, but it would have to be a deal to good to pass up.

1911's just another pistol to me. Yea I have one but find it does not do anything better than other brands I have. Maybe not as good as some. Wished I had bought another design of 45 now even though the 1911 runs well.

I like the Colt Series 70 more than any handgun. I shoot them more accurtely than any other. :D. Keep it and shoot it, even if infrequently.

YES I have got tired of so meany wrights up on one gun every month. My every gun maker comes out with it all the time. How can they do that with a caliber that is still a 45 ACP. Some writers thank that we the people think that that is some new.

I'm no longer infatuated with the 1911 but I still like the platform but I don't carry one or use one for HD. Six years ago I had 14 1911s in my collection, now I have four.
