Just wondering but does anyone have a short barrelled Mosin in their safe? if so post a picture!

Someone here posted a picture of one once, and I believe they had a You Tube video of them firing it. Can't remember who it was. Crazy things those are !

I believe that PTK has one.

Yes! That's who it was. I couldn't remember. He posted the links to some insane you tube videos showing the muzzle flash on that thing. Maybe he will stumble across this thread, I can't find the vids.

Okay. I want one badly, now. Anyone selling a junker Mosin with a crappy stock and messed-up barrel, in PA state?

I wonder if it'd be louder than a Serbu? The fireball looks smaller than a Serbu with 3" magnum slugs...

Wait, what's the legality of declaring an imported barreled receiver as a "pistol?" I know it's 100% kosher on domestic firearms for the first owner on a 4473 (shotgun AOWs, AR-15 receivers, etc.), but what about imports? Imported stuff usually needs a new serial number and everything. If anyone is importing barreled actions, anyway.

I doubt you'll be able to find a Mosin receiver that's never been made into a rifle. Also, why bother finding an especially trashy Mosin to SBR when perfectly good ones are under $100?

Yep, it's mine, and it is louder than my 12" barreled 870, louder than my 8" side-by-side, and louder than any gun I own currently.

Yes but not in PA state. I'll dig it out if you want it.

Mainly so I can hack it down without any guilt. Also, because I'm just that frugal (stingy, if you prefer :p).

And hm, I guess it may as well be an SBR, just so I can use a stock sometimes.

Thanks for offering, but no thanks. When you figure in shipping and the transfer fee, a $30 junker from out of state costs as much as finding a $75 gun locally.

On the topic of ammo, I've heard that these were normally used with reduced loads. They'd pull the bullet, remove some of the powder (maybe set it aside for making IEDs if they were a Jewish freedom fighter during WWII, or something), and put the bullet back in. I wonder if putting the bullet in backwards would still feed? Don't know how tolerant of crazy bullet shapes Mosins are, but that'd increase the damage done by at least an order of magnitude. Uh, are Mosins push-feed or Mauser type feed? I really don't know anything about them.

"Obrez" is a contraction of the Russian "obrazets", meaning "pattern of"; the Mosin-Nagant was originally known as the "obrazets 1891", and was commonly kept and sometimes sawn-off by discharged soldiers.

I saw one somewhere that had a front sight that basically looked like a mini mosin than what PTK did.

Can you make one of these like a normal rifle made in the US? or do you have to do something different?

No, you must register it as an SBR, as stated in this thread. You cannot legally just cut a rifle down to that size without a tax stamp.

Ive shot PTKs Mosin... Not too bad if you hold onto it with a death grip, wear ear plugs, muffs and cover your head in a sound dampening blanket. You should also fire it closer to your hip or you could be wearing said Mosin in your forehead

What I meant above was can you make it like any other shortbarrelled rifle? but thanks for the answer.

Serious question, are there any other rifles that may have common cheap junkers available, that might be louder than a Mosin? I'm still thinking about making an obrez.

Also, anyone that thinks one of those kicks hard enough to knock out teeth, should really try a Serbu Super Shorty, with a 3" magnum slug (chronoed at 1250 FPS). One-handed. :p

I was considering those 6.5mm Arisakas that were re-chambered in 30-06 without being re-barreled.

(Note that actually using one is almost certainly a bad idea. :))

Yes.

I've fired a 12" barreled 7mm Mauser that is significantly louder than my 91/30 SBR.

Done that with my single-shot 12ga shorty. Never again.
